POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for planning, organizing and implementing therapeutic activities and programs to enhance the emotional, cognitive and social wellbeing of patients in a psychiatric hospital. Position will collaborate with clinical team to integrate recreational and activity interventions into the treatment plan, focused on education, skill building and miliu engagement in recovery activities. Includes physical, social and creative programming designed to promote patient recovery, resiliency and independence.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Establish a therapeutic activities program in accordance with clinical guidelines and modalities recognized and accepted by the behavioral health field.
  • Plan, acquire and maintain adequate inventor of materials and equipment used in the program.
  • Prepare and implement an activities therapy schedule.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment team, including psychiatrists, nurses, and social service staff to align activities department with treatment goals.
  • Conduct Activity Therapy (AT) assessments focused on each patient’s interests, strengths/struggles and resources both internally and externally.
  • Research best practices and program models, working with Director of Social Services to engage best practice methods in the Activities department.
  • Provide services as a member of the multidisciplinary team as directed by the attending provider, Director of Social Services, Treatment team and patient.
  • Manage AT budget, equipment and supplies, to ensure that supplies are effectively utilized.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of the AT department and work with Director Social Services and CEO to make adjustments as needed to improve patient outcomes.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Occupational Therapy or related field, preferred.

Experience: Two (2) years clinical experience in a psychiatric setting, with at least one year’s experience applying activity therapy methods and techniques, preferred.

Certification/License: Licensed or certification in activity therapy discipline, preferred.
