Youth Program Specialist

 

Under the supervision of the Program Lead, the Friday Night Live Program (FNL) Specialist serves as a primary point of contact with school chapter sites and works directly with both youth participants and school site administration. This role involves collaborating with students to develop curriculum, activities, and campaign projects focused on substance use prevention, healthy living, skill building, and fostering positive relationships. The Program Assistant is also key in reaching out to and recruiting new youth participants and provides essential logistical and administrative support to ensure program success.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Collaborate with youth to develop and implement engaging health education workshops, with a focus on substance abuse prevention.
  • Engage youth in skill-building, substance abuse awareness, healthy lifestyles, and campaign project development.
  • Plan and implement alternative activities in a safe and welcoming environment including arts, crafts, and technology classes (digital arts).
  • Provide positive mentorship and guidance to youth during workshops and program activities. Conduct outreach and recruitment to engage prospective youth participants.
  • Maintain positive working partnerships with school staff and faculty; work with community partners to complete youth campaign projects as needed.
  • Maintain relationships and communication with program parents/guardians.
  • Support program logistics, including on-site implementation, preparation, and activity evaluation.
  • Represent agency program services at communitywide events.
  • Design and distribute program marketing materials and contribute to maintaining the program's social media and web presence.
  • Maintain weekly client-level data collection, entry, and tracking.
  • Assist Program Lead with data and demographic analysis for grant reports.
  • Assist in maintaining program facilities and acquiring necessary supplies. Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Currently enrolled in the second year at an accredited university or college in sociology, psychology, human services, or related field 

or 

  • One or more  years of full-time program administration experience in the areas of community building, social and/or human services.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience working with substance abuse, problem gambling, health and human services, and connecting individuals to community providers and health resources.
  • Some experience (can include internships or volunteer work) in supporting the development, implementation, or coordination of programs aimed at addressing the social and health needs of youth and adults. Familiarity with basic budgeting concepts is a plus.
  • Background in youth development and leadership, with exposure to  arts, digital media, and health and wellness promotion.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and use professional communication skills, both in person and virtually (phone, video calls).
  • Proficient in office administration tasks, including scheduling, documentation, and basic math for tracking budgets and reports.
  • Working familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for communication, data management, presentations, and reporting.
  • Ability to maintain a valid California driver license, current personal auto insurance, and an MVR sufficient to maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies.
  • Verbal and written fluency in English required; Bilingual skills in a second language (particularly Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese) is desired but not required.

Working conditions

The job is performed in an interior office setting which has no adverse environmental conditions expected, and work is occasionally performed outdoors and could involve exposure to external elements. Basic safety protocols and procedures must be performed. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Driving is essential to the function of this job.
