THE VIRGINIAN SALOON MANAGER

Whether it is inspiring menu development ideas, meeting to discuss customer engagement and satisfaction, or brainstorming operational protocols - you encourage creativity.

You are a skilled communicator with excellent problem-solving, observation & interpersonal skills. You are business-savvy and a natural leader.

As the Saloon Manager, you are responsible for managing all Saloon operations. You will be planning, directing, and overseeing all bar operations including managing staff, ensuring elite product and service standards are achieved, and implementing and maintaining procedures for maximum operating efficiency. This is a leadership position requiring you to set an example for all bar staff to follow.

Responsibilities:

Must have the ability to set-up, program and update Saloon POS system (Simphony - formerly Micros).

Participate in marketing efforts.

Manage the development & implementation of menus in cooperation with relevant Department Heads and Ownership.

Increase market share to meet/exceed Sales & Financial goals. Work with General Manager to understand budgeted expectations and participate in the monthly forecasting process.

Supervise all Saloon staff ensuring they have the necessary training, tools & resources to perform their jobs optimally.

Observe and manage the performance of all staff to ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.

Oversee accurate and proper cash handling procedures to ensure compliance with protocol and complete necessary cash handling documentation.

Maintain the cleanliness of the Saloon and surrounding outlets at all times. Encourage all staff members to do the same.

Promote and practice compliance with fire, health, safety and hygiene standards and regulations.

Collaborate with the Beverage Director, Director of Experiences, Director of Culinary Services and/or GM on all promotions, pricing, or any business requiring attention.

Ensure complete set-up of Saloon prior to opening.

Train and encourage staff to provide outstanding customer service and while remembering to upsell.

Ensure that all liquor cabinets and refrigerators are securely locked at closing.

Understand & maintain audio/visual equipment to ensure lounge is ready for service.

Check liquor and supplies daily to ensure Saloon is ready for service.

Maintain accurate inventory of Saloon liquor & supplies used in all areas of the hotel (including Event Space) and complete requisition regularly to order supplies needed for daily operations and special events.

Confirm delivery of all goods by checking against order documentation and facilitate proper stocking and storage.

Plan and implement cost control measures.

Maximize sales & revenue.

Service customers and support staff.

Assist Event & Saloon staff as needed to ensure the best service for our guests.

Always keep front AND back of outlets clean and organized.

Liaise with People & Culture team with regards to recruitment needs, training analysis & employee relations.

Ensure breaks are organized in accordance with fluctuations in the volume of business.

Train and develop the Saloon team to ensure service is to specification. Cooperate with all F&B and other staff members & managers to ensure customers’ expectations are exceeded.

Recognize, praise & reward associates for exceptional performance.

Handle poor performance in accordance with Springboard Hospitality’s Company Disciplinary procedure in conjunction with People & Culture team (Human Resources).

Comply with all food & beverage, safety, sanitary, federal, state & local regulations.

Perform any other duties which are assigned by the General Manager.

Possible Additional Duties:

In additional to essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions:

Participate in community and professional organizations to maintain high visibility and the achievement of revenue goals.

Visit existing and potential guests to ensure satisfaction and increase revenue.

Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.

Participate in hotel committees, MOD program and task force assignments.

Attend relevant meetings and conferences.

Requirements:

Education: 4-year college degree or equivalent. Experience preferred.

 

Certifications:

Outstanding food safety knowledge and certification required.

Responsible alcohol server certification required.

Experience: Two or more years of bar or beverage management in a hotel/ hospitality environment of comparable scale to Springboard Hospitality properties or four years of employment in a related position in an acceptable alternate environment.

Previous supervisory experience in food, beverage, and bar operations.

Skills & Abilities:

Complete working knowledge of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Possession of strong organizational & scheduling skills.

Must be able to assist assigned shifts which could include weekends, mornings, midday, evenings and late night.

Must have a positive attitude.

Able to make decisions.

Must be able to stand and walk for the majority of the shift, often exposed to various liquids, being mindful of safety at all times.

Must be a team player, able to work well with and inspire others.

Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Mathematical skills required that allow for calculation of labor costs, forecasting and budgeting.

Strong POS and MS Office skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers & supervisors , in a friendly and professional manner.

Must be able to effectively read and write in English.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior Experience:
    • Five-year experience in food and beverage, three of which should be from a management level
  • IT Expertise:
    • Advanced knowledge of computer software (including Microsoft Office, outlook) and web analytics tools is preferred.
  • Education:
    • Four-year college degree preferred
  • Subject Expertise:
    • Thorough knowledge of food and beverage operations including foods, beverages, supervisory aspects, service techniques, and guest interaction
    • Considerable skill in math and algebraic equations using percentages
    • Ability to walk, stand, and/or bend continuously to perform essential job functions.
    • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and to collect accurate information and to resolve problems.
    • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.
    • Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all property safety and security procedures as required maintaining a secure and safe environment for employees as well as guests.
    • Report any unusual occurrences and/or request to Supervisor.
    • Read and abide by all the regulations and rules of conduct stated in the Associate Handbook.
    • Must be service oriented with excellent customer service and sales skills
    • Must be able to effectively communicate to guests, management, and coworkers and read, write and understand the English language
    • Must be energetic and outgoing
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Must be able to follow directions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy
    • Must be a team player with the ability to work under minimal supervision
    • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
    • Must be able to understand and work with basic financial information and solve basic arithmetic problems
    • Must be able to type 45 wpm and have the ability to input data and access information on the computer
    • Must have proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Opera; preferred.
    • Must be able to exercise confidentiality and discretion.

OTHER EXPECTATIONS:

  • Abide by payroll policies, procedures and rules of conduct as stated in the Springboard Hospitality Associate Handbook.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all company safety and security procedures.
  • Travel required: As needed for hotel familiarization, content creation shoots and to meet with colleagues.
  • Hours Required: Must primarily work during Springboard Hospitality business hours, while understanding that the hotel business functions 24/7 and some weekend or holiday work may occasionally be required.
