Job Summary 

The Tax Compliance Requirements Team is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and documenting federal, state, and local payroll tax rules and regulations. These requirements are translated into clear business and system specifications and configured accurately and promptly within the compliance business rules engine to ensure the software remains aligned with evolving regulatory standards. 

Working closely with the compliance team, business operations, and QA, this role helps ensure that tax calculations, thresholds, frequencies, rates, and filing requirements are implemented correctly and kept up to date. This compliance-focused role demands precision, consistency, and a solid understanding of payroll tax concepts. 

 

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Research and monitor payroll tax rules, regulations, and policy changes from federal, state, and local agencies using documented processes and available tools 

  • Analyze routine regulatory updates and assess their impact on tax compliance configurations 

  • Translate tax laws and administrative guidance into clear, actionable compliance requirements and business rule specifications 

  • Support the design and configuration of the business rules engine to reflect current compliance standards 

  • Collaborate with team members to interpret complex or ambiguous regulations, ensuring accurate documentation and implementation 

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks to meet internal timelines and agency deadlines 

  • Respond to routine support cases and generate work tickets for required system updates 

  • Maintain comprehensive internal documentation and audit trails for all research and configuration changes 

  • Contribute to team initiatives and process improvements as needed 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience 

  • 2+ years of experience in payroll tax compliance 

  • Solid working knowledge of payroll tax regulations and concepts  

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulatory information with precision 

  • Experience translating tax guidance into business or system requirements 

  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across functional teams 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment 

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote setting under general supervision 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with payroll tax systems, ERP platforms, or SaaS-based systems 

  • 1+ years of experience working with tax configuration tools, business rules engines, or payroll applications  

  • Proficiency with Excel and other Office 365 products 

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and cross-functional collaboration
