Job description

Holman is a family-owned, global automotive services organization anchored by our deeply rooted core values and principles that have enabled us to continue Driving What’s Right throughout the last century. Our teams deliver the Holman Experience by treating our customers and each other as we would like to be treated, and creating positive, rewarding relationships all around.

The automotive markets Holman serves include fleet management and leasing; vehicle fabrication and upfitting; component manufacturing and productivity solutions; powertrain distribution and logistics services; commercial and personal insurance and risk management; and retail automotive sales as one of the largest privately owned dealership groups in the United States.

We’re looking for a hands-on, forward-thinking Team Lead to guide our Retail Development team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment and is passionate about both leading people and writing great code. You’ll split your time between administrative leadership and active development—mentoring developers, reviewing code, and contributing directly to our applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Development

  • Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews to ensure high standards and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead a small to medium-sized team of developers, balancing project oversight with hands-on coding responsibilities (approximately 50/50 split).
  • Empower experienced principal architects by removing roadblocks and creating space for them to focus on high-impact architectural decisions.
  • Stay current with development trends and recommend improvements to tools, processes, and technologies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with cross-functional IT teams, including Security, Networking, and Support, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to define system requirements and manage expectations.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.

Project & Team Management

  • Analyze, prioritize, assign, and follow up on development tasks and support tickets.
  • Track and report on project metrics such as effort, progress, and completion timelines.
  • Ensure the delivery of strategic functionality within project constraints by working within established project policies and guidelines.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Foster a collaborative, agile team environment and maintain strong working relationships with developers, end-users, and management.
  • Mentor and guide team members in their technical and professional growth.
  • Perform performance reviews and support career development for team members.

Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience or Bootcamp).
  • Additional certifications or training in leadership, agile methodologies, or relevant technologies are a plus.

Relevant Work Experience:

  • 5–7 years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team lead role.
  • Proven ability to manage both people and projects while contributing as an active developer.
  • Strong understanding of modern web development technologies and methodologies.
  • Experience working with cross-functional IT teams and managing technical dependencies.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
