Description

Summary: The Medical Charge Poster plays a key role in ensuring accurate and timely charge entry and coding of medical services to support optimal reimbursement and compliance. This position requires certification in medical coding and a strong understanding of coding guidelines, modifiers, and payer policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews clinical documentation and enters appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes in accordance with coding guidelines.
  • Accurately posts charges for all patient services in the electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management systems.
  • Ensures proper use of modifiers and coding based on provider documentation and payer-specific requirements.
  • Identifies and resolves coding discrepancies or missing information through communication with providers or clinical staff.
  • Audits encounters and documentation as needed to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
  • Works closely with billing team to ensure charges are posted within timely filing limits.
  • Stays current on coding updates, payer guidelines, and documentation requirements.
  • Collaborates with providers and internal teams to improve coding accuracy and revenue cycle performance.
  • Maintains productivity consistent with defined department standards.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA, federal/state regulations, and internal policies related to coding and billing.
  • Assists in reviewing and correcting rejected or denied claims due to coding-related errors.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Required: Current coding certification (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)
  • Preferred: 1+ year experience in charge posting and medical coding in a multi-specialty or dermatology setting
  • Experience with EMR and billing systems preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance billing guidelines and procedures, especially Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong understanding of coding guidelines (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS)
  • Detail-oriented with high level of accuracy
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Proficient in multiple computer-based systems and Microsoft Office Suite

Schedule Requirements:

  • Travel up to 10%
  • Eligible for remote work after 90-day introductory period is completed and assuming productivity is consistent and meets department standards.
