About the Opportunity

Summary and Responsibility

The Department of Music in the College of Arts, Media and Design, Northeastern University seeks a part-time instructor to teach a course titled “Introduction to Songwriting.” The description of the course follows below. This course will be offered on-line and asynchronously during Northeastern’s summer II semester (June 30-August 18, 2025). The class will be capped at 25.

MUSC 2210. Introduction to Songwriting. (4 Hours)

Offers an opportunity to learn to construct songs with forward motion and memorable “hooks.”Topics include time-proven song forms, melody writing, harmonic tools, lyric writing, collaboration, and production techniques. Emphasizes the craft of writing songs for use in film and television.

Qualifications

PhD is preferred or equivalent professional experience. Previous teaching experience at the college level and a broad knowledge of Humanities is highly desirable.
