Description

This is a paid internship position ($17 / per hour). Interns must be currently enrolled in an accredited Oklahoma early child care / education vocational program OR college/university with early child care / education major.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Sunbeam ECS Student Intern position is a seasonal part-time position that contributes to the operation of Sunbeam’s early education centers by performing a variety of administrative, office, and early childcare related duties. Interns may assist Teachers in completing tasks in a classroom environment for children aged birth to 4 years.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in preparing early education center for new school year, including but not limited to creating posters and labels, copying documents, putting together play activities, etc.
  • Assist in helping maintain a clean and organized childcare space, including sanitizing toys, equipment, and surfaces.
  • Assist with in-classroom activities, as directed, including but not limited to supporting teachers during children nap times.
  • Assist with the supervision of children on playgrounds and in gross motor rooms. Interns will not be left unsupervised with children.
  • Works closely with the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health clinicians, Family Advocates, and School Director at assigned location to aid teaching staff in meeting identified classroom objectives.
  • Follow all established school policies and procedures regarding childcare responsibilities.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS                                                            

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently communicate with staff and others, and must be able to exchange accurate information when doing so. The employee must also be able to interact safely with small children in various positions. Must be able to endure remaining in stationary position for extended periods (up to 50% of workday). Occasionally must be able to move or lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

Work Environment

The employee will work in a school environment, may work in close quarters with other staff and small children.  The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to loud; frequent chaotic situations will occur, characteristic to working with children ages 0 – 5 years.  Employee must expect exposure to strong odors such as soiled diapers and clothes, and poor hygiene. May come into contact with childhood diseases and blood on occasion.
