Job description

What We Do

At Leading Educators (LE), we know that excellent teaching is the most important driver of student success. The moment a student steps foot in the classroom, their opportunity to learn depends on how prepared their teacher is to translate complex content knowledge, standards, and their knowledge of that student into lessons that help them learn deeply and apply their thinking to the real world.

That’s a big lift, and it often happens alone. As a national nonprofit, we partner with school systems to overcome persistent instructional challenges, foster intentional collaboration and adult learning by design, and ignite new possibilities through systemic solutions at the intersection of teaching, talent, and technology.

We work shoulder-to-shoulder with educators at every level of the education system to strengthen their instructional and leadership practices, bring a vision for excellent instruction to life with consistency, and ensure every student reaches their full potential. Through direct support, strategic advising, innovation pilots, and best-in-class research, we help educators work toward a future where every student is ready to thrive. Application Deadline for Internal Candidates: June 16th.

Application Deadline  External Candidates: June 27th.

Position

We’re seeking a visionary and strategic Managing Director, Math to lead our national math strategy and drive system-level transformation in mathematics instruction. This leader will serve as LE’s chief math ambassador—shaping our services, representing our thought leadership in high-profile forums, and forming strategic partnerships with school systems, funders, and collaborators.

As the enterprise math lead, you'll design impactful service packages, oversee complex curriculum implementation (including Illustrative Mathematics), and drive cross-functional innovation across departments—from AI-supported PD to resource development and staff training. You’ll supervise high-performing teams, partner with internal and external leaders, and help position LE as a national leader in math education innovation.

Do you have expertise in…

  • Designing and scaling math programs in partnership with district or state education leaders?
  • Building and managing high-performing teams through complex, instructional change efforts?
  • Leading external thought leadership—webinars, publications, keynotes—in math education?
  • Navigating cross-functional collaboration to align program, marketing, development, and innovation strategies?

Do you enjoy…

  • Designing bold, system-wide math strategies that improve outcomes at scale?
  • Representing a mission-driven organization on national stages and in high-stakes partnerships?
  • Advancing research-based instructional solutions that center equity and student success?
  • Testing innovative delivery models—including hybrid or AI-integrated supports—for math PD?

If you've answered affirmatively to these questions and meet the following prerequisites, we urge you to seize this opportunity. This role calls for the following:

  • 10+ years of experience, including 5+ years managing teams; experience in curriculum implementation, instructional leadership, and consulting highly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of K–12 math education and proven ability to influence district/state decision-makers (e.g., CAOs, Superintendents)
  • Track record of external leadership through publications, keynotes, or webinars
  • Proven experience designing, pitching, and closing high-impact partnerships and funding strategies
  • Strong ability to lead high-stakes projects, coach teams, and coordinate across departments
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with diverse audiences
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with evolving priorities

Travel Requirements

This is a remote position that requires up to 40% travel
