Position Summary:

The Tele-Psychiatrist provides direct, compassionate, and evidence-based virtual psychiatric care to patients in inpatient, emergency, and consult-liaison settings. Working collaboratively with on-site medical teams, you will evaluate and manage a range of behavioral health conditions, contribute to treatment planning, and ensure continuity of care using telemedicine platforms.

This role involves real-time psychiatric evaluations, proactive communication with interdisciplinary teams, and clinical decision-making guided by best practices in psychiatry. As a key representative of Equum Medical, you will foster positive relationships with clinical partners while promoting access to timely, high-quality mental health care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time psychiatric evaluations and consultations for patients in hospitals, EDs, and behavioral health units
  • Diagnose and manage acute psychiatric conditions including mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety, substance use, and behavioral disturbances
  • Collaborate with on-site physicians, nurses, case managers, and social workers to coordinate care plans
  • Support medication management, risk assessment, and disposition planning
  • Conduct proactive rounding and participate in multidisciplinary case reviews as needed
  • Document assessments, recommendations, and follow-up plans clearly in the EMR
  • Ensure continuity of care through appropriate handoffs and discharge planning support

Requirements:

  • Board-Certification or Board-Eligibility in Psychiatry
  • Valid and active medical license with ability to obtain multi-state licensure as required
  • Reliable high-speed internet and secure, private remote work environment
  • Proficient in EMR systems and telepsychiatry platforms
  • Excellent clinical judgment and ability to work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with involuntary holds, medication protocols, and behavioral health regulations

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in managing psychiatric emergencies and complex behavioral presentations
  • Familiarity with acute care settings including ED and inpatient consultation
  • Ability to perform safety assessments and determine appropriate level of care
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, virtual, multidisciplinary environment
  • Knowledge of best practices in psychopharmacology and crisis intervention
  • Compassionate approach to patient care and culturally competent communication

Education:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Completed residency in Psychiatry
  • Fellowship training in consult-liaison or emergency psychiatry (preferred but not required)
  • Active DEA registration and state-controlled substance licenses as needed
