Fueling Growth Through Supplier Relations and Market Insights
As a Commodity Trader, you will be responsible for purchasing forest products for and on behalf of our Dealers. Led by the Manager, National Commodity this opportunity will suit someone who has excellent negotiation and relationship building skills, as well as experience working within the forest products industry.
Note: This position can be based out of Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland, Quebec or Ontario.

Negotiate contracts with Suppliers and sawmills ensuring quality products and competitive pricing daily.
Target and expand sales to Dealers out of Atlantic Canada Reload Centre.
Maintain strong relationships with current Suppliers/mills and proactively develop new trading and supply sources.
Monitor and analyze market trends within the forest product trading industry and collaborate with the Manager to ensure ideal buying decisions and optimal trading opportunities.
Organize and conduct regional spot, block, and contract buys.
Build and maintain relationships with Home Hardware Building Centre Dealers to provide support in growing their business, keeping them informed of market conditions and assisting with issues related to lumber shipments, quality, claims etc.
Maintain database with applicable Supplier information for purchase orders, commodity reports and Supplier agreements.
Develop new sources of supply within defined market, by educating Suppliers or mills on the size, scope, and opportunity that Home Hardware has to offer.
We’re looking for:
Diploma in Forestry, Construction or Business with 5-10 years’ experience of commodity trading in forest products.
Strong knowledge of softwood lumber and panel products within the retail/wholesale industry.
Excellent communication, planning and negotiating skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to balance, prioritize and manage several projects.
Flexible and adaptable; ability to operate independently and work effectively as part of a team.
Strong business acumen and analytical skills with ability to support and make recommendations from economic and commodity reports.
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to work varied hours as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Willingness and flexibility to travel as required.
Bilingual French would be considered an asset.
The ability to accommodate a fully remote role that requires occasional travel throughout Atlantic Canada with potential travel to Ontario and Quebec.
