Job description

Associate Director, Development
100% Remote within California, Must reside in California

We are seeking a Associate Director to join the Foundation in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation. The Foundation for California Community Colleges is on a mission to double its impact in the next 10 years. We are a group of relentless optimists and innovators in education, working collaboratively with public and private partners to help improve the student experience and expand pathways to economic and social mobility in communities across California.

What You’ll Do

The Associate Director, Development will bring experience and creativity to the design, implementation, and management of annual giving and major giving while stewarding existing donor relationships and discovering new potential donors. The Associate Director, Development will provide complex and nuanced support for expanding FoundationCCC’s annual and major giving programs in a highly collaborative and supportive environment.

The Resource Development Department is responsible for the creation, development, and management of financial opportunities that advance the mission of FoundationCCC and the California Community Colleges. Resource Development supports the organization’s role as the system’s innovation hub; makes the case for, secures, centralizes, manages, and reports revenue generation for the organization; stewards gifts and grants; and, in partnership with program leaders, manages the cultivation of our relationships with donors and grantors.

  • Plan, design, and implement strategic and innovative giving campaigns and plans, including defining cases for support, creating buy-in, and securing gifts from donors and prospects.
  • Develop and execute multi-channel annual giving solicitations by writing appeals and follow-up communications, tracking campaign results, and preparing reports. Design and manage appeals via fundraising channels (e.g., email, social media, and peer-to-peer fundraising) to target key populations and maximize fundraising potential.
  • Plan, design and implement a donor stewardship program.
  • Coordinate legal review of gift agreements and contracts.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with the Foundation’s Marketing and Communications team for the creation of fundraising-related materials, such as case statements, solicitation materials, and stewardship communications.
  • Evaluate and advise on enhancements to the Salesforce CRM and current fundraising software solutions. Collaborate with the Advancement Services team to research and advise on new software programs, as needed.
  • Supervise the Gifts Development Senior Coordinator, a support professional with responsibility for recording and reporting gifts and other gifts related activities.

Attributes for Success

  • Experience with coordinating multi-channel annual fundraising campaigns from campaign ideation to donor stewardship.
  • Demonstrated experience working with major donors and VIPs. Experience cultivating donor relationships and soliciting prospects.
  • Ability to design fundraising campaigns in online giving platforms (GoFundMe Pro) and bulk email software (Campaign Monitor). Familiarity with other technology platforms (KindSight, Zoom, Asana, Miro, etc.) is a plus.
  • Minimum of three (3+) years of related work experience in donor cultivation and solicitation, donor research, donor management, and stakeholder relations.
  • Familiarity with fundraising office administration (best practices, protocols, procedures, and recordkeeping, and data management).
  • Experience with startup and scaling of gifts development preferred.
  • Experience with peer-to-peer fundraising a plus.
  • We’re recruiting for mission-driven, passionate, equity-minded individuals with a strong desire to impact and change people’s lives for the better
  • Our work holds great weight and responsibility, and the opportunity to impact the lives of millions
  • Innovation, creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurship are encouraged as employees work to achieve organizational goals

  • Team members are hired for their expertise in niche areas across our areas of impact and higher education overall, and for their knowledge of business, philanthropy, technology, communications, and more
  • We have a commitment to professional development and an emphasis on shared leadership, to ensure growth for employees and the organization overall
