The Role: 

M&G Investment Management (MAGIM) can sub-delegate portfolio management to External Fund Managers within the UK and globally, to meet the strategy and objectives for end clients. Approximately 20 funds are currently sub-delegated to 12 External Fund Managers. These hold a range of assets including equities, fixed income along with ETDs and OTCs. The External Fund Management Oversight Analyst will support the team to ensure adherence to the Frameworks and Policies in place to support this operating model, including ongoing operational oversight and due diligence of the External Fund Managers and 2 Custodians.

The successful candidate can develop and expand their knowledge by having exposure to a number of departments and teams across M&G plc including the Investment Office, Controls Monitoring, Compliance, Risk, Legal, Product Strategy, Operations and colleagues within Supplier Management, as well as Client Account Managers and Service Relationship Managers at each External Fund Manager and our Custodians. The role does not include NAV or Accounting Oversight responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:    

  • Jointly manage the Team Mailbox, which can include a range of queries from internal colleagues or external parties, such as investment guideline breaches, trading or operational issues and errors requiring analysis and investigation
  • Analyse Attestations and KPIs from all External Fund Managers and maintain the Oversight Reporting schedules
  • Maintain the Team’s Issues, Improvements & Priorities Log and prepare the monthly RAYG report to enable Team discussion, and disseminate reports to governing Boards, Committees and Forums
  • Maintain the ‘Key Items & Fund Info’ tables to evidence our oversight activities are in compliance with the Frameworks
  • Support the annual operational Due Diligence review and risk-assessments of External Fund Managers and support the ongoing review of Service Level Agreements
  • Collate and prepare New Market and Instrument due diligence review
  • Applies judgement when significant challenges arise and able to articulate justification of proposals to internal colleagues

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking and highly numerate
  • Driven, self-starter. Able to work on own and as a team member
  • Ability to apply logic to practical challenges
  • Must be comfortable articulating in writing and verbally
  • Enjoys interacting with new people and building relationships
  • Demonstrable understanding of the Asset Management industry

Desirable

  • IMC, IOC or equivalent, or a willingness to obtain
  • Front to Back knowledge of life-cycle of an equity/bond asset within a portfolio, from Order Generation to Trading, to Post-Trade monitoring and operational activities.
  • Able to explain structure of an ACS or OEIC, and/or applicable regulations
