Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Wireless Survey Technician to conduct site surveys and assess the performance of Wi-Fi networks. The technician will be responsible for evaluating and testing the wireless network coverage, signal strength, and identifying any connectivity issues. This position requires proficiency in Wi-Fi technology and a strong understanding of wireless site survey tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Wireless Site Surveys: Perform on-site wireless surveys to assess Wi-Fi coverage, signal strength, and performance across various locations.
  • Test Wi-Fi Connectivity: Measure signal strength, interference levels, and coverage areas, and verify the quality of the wireless network.
  • Identify and Troubleshoot Issues: Detect weak signals, dead zones, interference, and other connectivity issues affecting Wi-Fi performance.
  • Generate Reports: Document survey results, including signal strength maps, network performance, and any recommendations for network optimization.
  • Recommend Solutions: Based on findings, propose solutions to improve Wi-Fi performance, including the installation of additional access points or other adjustments.
  • Collaborate with Network Teams: Work closely with the network engineers and IT teams to ensure network optimization and smooth Wi-Fi operation.
  • Update and Maintain Survey Data: Maintain records of all surveys, results, and configurations for future reference and network improvements.

Required Skills And Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience in wireless site surveying, Wi-Fi testing, or related field.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Wi-Fi technologies, wireless standards (Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, etc.), and troubleshooting methods.
  • Survey Tools: Familiarity with wireless survey software and tools (e.g., Ekahau, AirMagnet, iBwave).
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity issues effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to create detailed reports and collaborate with team members.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to accurately identify and address Wi-Fi performance issues.
  • Willingness to travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator) or similar wireless certifications.
  • Experience: Experience with large-scale wireless networks, such as those in enterprise or multi-location environments.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to move equipment, access various locations, and conduct on-site testing, sometimes in tight spaces.
