Description
Position Overview:
To provide psychiatric assessments for children, adolescents and adults including completing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing, prescribing psychotropic medication, making treatment recommendations and providing interventions for psychiatric stabilization, recovery and rehabilitation. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Ryan Health.
Essential Functions:
- Provide Psychiatric Evaluations for children, youth and adults upon admission or when clinically indicated. Conduct mental status exams. Prescribe medication for patients as appropriate. Maintain a caseload for psychopharmacology. Complete, review and sign treatment plans and make recommendations for psychotherapy services to be provided by other members of a multidisciplinary team.
- Function as a team member together with other health care practitioners by collaborating actively with other disciplines and by maintaining communication with other practitioners as appropriate regarding the healthcare needs of the patients both within the Mental Health Department, and between Departments.
- Document all work in an accurate, complete and timely manner in compliance with Center, State, and all regulatory policies and procedures. This includes progress notes with reference to target symptoms, and accurate recording of all prescriptions, timely development, review, and signing of treatment plans, complete assessments including five axes diagnoses. All encounters and other statistical records are to be completed in a timely manner.
- As required, provide consultation and precept assigned Psychiatric Nurse Clinical Specialists on a regular basis to review treatment provided to patients in the Department. Review medical records as required by precept agreement. Consult with nonmedical practitioners as needed regarding the treatment plan of patients in the Department. Provide in-service training to the Department’s staff and Center practitioners on psychopharmacology, diagnosis, and other areas of expertise.
- Provide workshops for Mental Health Department patients on Psychopharmacology and the Treatment of Specific Psychiatric Disorders.
- Provide treatment on-site and in the field, as needed.
- Respond to psychiatric and medical emergencies.
- Supervise the patient care activities of nursing staff who may be assigned to work with him/her.
- Practice accepted infection control measures in accordance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, and Center Policy and Procedure.
- Attends staff meetings, in-service meetings, and supervision as assigned.
- Immediately report any problems and/or unusual occurrences to supervisor.
- Demonstrated a professional courteous and respectful attitude in interacting with patients, immediate supervisor and other employees.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
- Other special projects/assignments as needed
Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Skills Required:
- Current knowledge of psychopharmacology
- Experience with seriously mentally ill, patients with co-occurring substance abuse disorders
- Three years experience in ambulatory setting (emergency room, clinic or health center).
- Must be knowledgeable about Office of Mental Health, Patient Centered Medical Home guidelines and other regulatory standards.
- Working experience with electronic medical records software.
- Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment: MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated track record of organization, focus and ability to work in a fast-paced clinic.
Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
- Medical Degree. Three years of Psychiatry Residency
- New York State M.D. License, Board Certified or eligible to be Certified by American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
- Certification Specialty for Children and Adolescents
Preferred Qualifications:
- Spanish/English language fluency
- Addiction psychiatry
