POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Vice President of Engagement Platform Engineering, the Director of Technical Program Management will spearhead the enterprise-wide rollout of Sony’s Engagement Platform across multiple business units. This platform leverages foundational technologies from Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and other internal teams to deliver shared capabilities in digital commerce, personalization, account & identity services, and developer enablement. The Director will lead a team of Technical Program Managers and work closely with engineering directors and Sony’s Digital Transformation (DX) organization to ensure these platform capabilities are successfully integrated and adopted across Sony Electronics, Sony Pictures, Sony Sports, and other operating companies. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role requiring strategic vision, excellent stakeholder management, and a metrics-driven approach to deliver platform innovation and scalability on a global enterprise scale.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership: Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of Technical Program Managers, providing guidance and support to drive successful program execution and grow the TPM function.
Enterprise Program Delivery: Lead the planning and execution of complex, cross-functional programs that implement the Engagement Platform across Sony’s operating companies, from initial requirements through launch and operational handoff. Ensure on-time delivery of program milestones and alignment with business goals.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering directors, product managers, and Sony’s DX (Digital Transformation) organization to align platform initiatives with business needs, coordinate resources, and remove roadblocks. Foster collaboration across software engineering, product, design, and business teams to achieve unified outcomes.
Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary liaison for program stakeholders across various Sony businesses (Electronics, Pictures, Sports, etc.), establishing trust and ensuring clear communication. Drive stakeholder alignment by regularly communicating vision, status, risks, and changes, and obtain buy-in on key decisions and priorities.
Strategic Execution: Translate high-level strategic objectives into detailed program roadmaps and execution plans. Work with senior leadership to prioritize initiatives and adjust program scope or resources as needed to meet evolving strategic goals. Ensure each program supports Sony’s broader digital transformation and engagement strategy.
Technology Adoption & Integration: Champion the adoption of core platform technologies (e.g. commerce services, personalization engines, account/identity systems) within each business unit, tailoring rollout plans to each organization’s needs. Ensure seamless integration of new platform features into existing systems and processes, maximizing utilization of the platform’s capabilities.
Developer Ecosystem Enablement: Drive initiatives to enhance developer enablement as part of the platform. Oversee the establishment of developer portals, APIs, and integration tools, providing Sony’s internal teams and third-party developers with the resources needed to build on the Engagement Platform. By fostering a thriving developer ecosystem, accelerate third-party integrations and extend platform value across Sony’s products and services.
Metrics & Reporting: Define clear metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure program success and platform adoption (e.g. integration completion rates, user adoption, performance improvements). Track progress rigorously and use data to drive decisions and continuous improvement. Provide regular program updates and dashboards to executive leadership, ensuring transparency through status reports, business reviews, and executive-level presentations on program outcomes.
Program Governance: Establish strong program governance and operating rhythms for all initiatives. Implement best practices for risk management, change control, and issue resolution across programs. Proactively identify and mitigate technical and scheduling risks throughout the program lifecycle, ensuring accountability and course-correcting when necessary.
Process Improvement & Agile Practices: Promote modern development and program management practices to improve efficiency and delivery predictability. Champion Agile/Scrum methodologies and scaled frameworks (e.g. SAFe) to coordinate work across multiple teams, while continuously refining processes to improve collaboration, quality, and speed. Lead post-mortems and retrospectives to learn from each initiative and institutionalize best practices for future programs.
Platform Scalability & Compliance: Work closely with engineering teams to ensure that platform integration projects meet Sony’s standards for performance, scalability, security, and compliance. Coordinate with InfoSec, Privacy, and Compliance teams (as needed) to manage data governance and regulatory requirements, especially for shared services like payments and identity. Support the platform’s ability to scale reliably to millions of users across global markets.
Honesty, trustworthiness and ethical conduct are material requirements for the responsibilities outlined above
