JOB SUMMARY
The Tangerine Press Associate Art Director manages a portion of the creative direction and development of Scholastic Book Fair’s and Club’s product lines, such as nonfiction books, activity kits, posters, and stationery and school supplies, from start to finish. This associate leads and mentors direct reports and contractors, and is responsible for an assortment of product projects each season to design and create the most exciting, kid-friendly products in the market.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
1. In partnership with the Art Director, manage all creative initiatives and development of non-book products created by Tangerine Press. Track product development and keep the Art Director and larger Tangerine Press team informed of production issues, design challenges and progress.
2. Direct the design and production of a variety of projects each season, including nonfiction books, activity kits, posters, stationery and school supplies, and product packaging.
3. Manage and mentor direct report(s) on the Design Team: meet regularly to review projects’ statuses, provide support, and develop direct report(s)’ skill sets. 4. Collaborate across Tangerine Press teams to establish product development schedules; Participate in weekly product update meetings with editorial and production, as well as in smaller weekly Design Team staff meetings to surface opportunities, problem solve, and meet due dates, quality, budget, and product safety requirements.
5. Ensure company branding and image standards are adhered to, including following all processes in place for media licensing images and fonts.
6. Engage in every stage of pre-flighting and packaging files for print, and working with our vendors through sample reviews until products are approved and completed.
7. Make recommendations to drive innovation and continually improve our products and work processes.
Responsible for timely archival of files for all completed projects, and for uploading product photos each season.
1. Minimum 7 years’ design experience with an art department in the publishing, packaging, toy or children’s businesses. Experience in publishing and print preferred.
2. Thorough knowledge of and extensive work experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator).
3. A portfolio representing a wide variety of design work, that demonstrates knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, strengths in layout, design, and typography, is required for review.
4. Knowledge of the printing processes from publishing, the toy industry, or children’s product businesses.
5. Highly organized with strong verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
6. Work independently to meet simultaneous deadlines for multiple projects and thrive in a remote work environment.
7. Ability to conceptualize ideas, sketch, and understand 3D packaging, including cardboard display boxes.
8. BFA or similar degree, or certification from a technical school in Graphic Design or a related field is a plus.
9. Knowledge of Adobe Workfront and Microsoft PowerPoint is a plus.
