Insurance Investigator

Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $57,200 – $65,000

Starting Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience


The Agent Regulation Division of the State Corporation Commission's (SCC) Bureau of Insurance (BOI) seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Insurance Investigator to perform specialized investigative and auditing work in its Real Estate Settlement Agent Investigation (RESA) section. Investigators in this section of BOI determine the validity of complaints against title settlement agencies and insurance agents to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Major responsibilities of this Insurance Investigator position will include: conducting routine investigations of audit discrepancies; daily interaction with insurance agents, agency personnel, and consumers relating to audits and investigations; collecting, evaluating and analyzing financial data and real estate documentation; conducting interviews with complainants, agents, and agency personnel; and performing in-depth file reviews. The selected candidate for the Insurance Investigator position will prepare detailed investigative reports and analysis, as well as evidentiary documents, and may present cases to counsel and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. This position requires considerable travel (up to 50%) within the state and occasional travel outside the state. Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for this position include professional experience conducting detailed investigations, and/or experience working in title settlement agencies. A bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred, however, in lieu of a degree, additional relevant professional experience in the above-mentioned areas is required. Any accounting knowledge or coursework is a plus. The ability to analyze financial data, draft reports, comprehend technical real estate transactions, and conduct basic investigations is essential for this position. Candidates for this position should have the ability to: learn and effectively communicate processes and procedures both verbally and in writing to the industry and consumers; exercise tact and judgment in communications; conduct interviews; and demonstrate strong organizational and analytical skills. Knowledge in the use of a personal computer and its applications is required. Familiarity with analyzing and applying laws and regulations is preferred. Ideal candidates for this position will have familiarity with and the ability to understand all aspects of the closing process and all supporting documentation, including but not limited to, title insurance policies, closing disclosure documents, settlement statements, reconciliations and escrow account records. The ability to travel both in and out of state up to 50% of the time is required.
