Status: Clinical Teacher Contract

Hours: 6 to 28 hours per week

Salary: Academic start salaries are determined by qualifications and years of related experience.

About

About the Community- Clinical Teachers, Nursing Role:

Candidates are required for clinical practicum courses in Community Health within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellness. Successful candidates will supervise and instruct nursing students working with individuals, families, and populations in diverse community settings, with a focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and social justice. Clinical teachers will support students in applying relational practice and a population health framework through experiential learning opportunities.

Successful candidates will be team players who are expected to play an active role in the following areas: ensuring student awareness of course objectives; providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment; effectively using available resources; carrying out regularly scheduled instruction in the assigned clinical practice setting; using effective teaching and learning strategies and evaluation techniques; and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of students’ clinical practice performance .

Education

  • The successful candidate will have a Baccalaureate Degree or Graduate Degree in Nursing.

Experience/Skills

  • In addition, the successful candidate will have a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Clinical nursing experience in the following is required: Community healthwith a pediatric, public health or mental health focus.
  • Must be a registered nurse and member of good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the additional qualifications: proven successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level in the practice setting; demonstrated understanding of, and competency in; the teaching/learning profession with a learning-centered approach; and proven ability to work in a diverse, dynamic multicultural environment with scarce resources.
  • The successful candidate will have the following skills: Demonstrable, superior written and oral communication, effective problem solving, conflict resolution, and mediation skills, effective teamwork & Interpersonal skills
  • Must meet all medical and non – medical requirements for placements. This includes a current valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS), current BLS (renewed annually), all routine immunization (Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella and Hepatitis B vaccines) and COVID and flu vaccines. A historical record of a two-step TB test and current one step TB test. For clinical teaching in Long Term Care placements the VSS and TB testing must be less than six months ago.
