Payroll Specialist – Accounting Firm (Multi-Client Environment)

Montreal, QC (Hybrid) | Full-Time

Our client, a well-established and growing Montreal-based accounting firm, is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join their team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for full-cycle payroll and related bookkeeping for multiple clients across various industries, while also supervising and mentoring two junior payroll/bookkeeping staff.

🔍 Key Responsibilities

  • Multi-Client Payroll Management: working directly with clients. Process full-cycle payroll for a portfolio of clients (hourly, salaried, commissions).
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor 2 junior payroll/bookkeeping team members, review their work, and support their development.
  • Government Remittances: Prepare and submit payroll-related remittances (CRA, WSIB, CNESST, etc.).
  • Bookkeeping Support: Handle payroll-related bookkeeping (e.g., journal entries, reconciliations).
  • Client Support: Act as the main point of contact for client payroll inquiries and setup.
  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure payroll practices meet provincial and federal legislation.
  • Year-End Reporting: Prepare T4s and assist with year-end reconciliations.
  • Process Ownership: Develop, refine, and document internal payroll processes and best practices.

Payroll Tools You'll Use

  • Wagepoint (primary)
  • Ceridian
  • Nethris

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience managing payroll for multiple clients or companies in a professional services setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and requirements.
  • Prior experience managing or mentoring junior staff.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills and client-service mindset.
  • Proficiency in payroll software; experience with Wagepoint is an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is a plus but not mandatory.
