Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
Review, approve and/or complete the Canadian, USA and international tax returns assuring compliance with federal, provincial/state and local tax laws and regulations. This includes but is not limited to:
Sales tax, Non-resident tax, Corporate Income tax
GST, HST, QST, PST as well as VAT
Prepare/ Assist/ review working papers for all tax return filings for all Canadian, USA and international corporations
Ensure tax templates used for monthly tax accounting are correct and adjusted for tax changes
Prepare tax forecast information for inclusion into the corporate forecast quarterly
Ensure tax registrations are filed and maintained in all tax jurisdictions required
Review and ensure tax assessments and notices of reassessment are dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner. Prepare the necessary correspondence with the taxing authorities, including notice of objections
Prepare all election forms as required for tax filings
Prepare and process future income tax asset and liabilities accounting entries under Canadian GAAP in SAP computer accounting system.
Work with internal staff to prepare and submit Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) claims, and support UK R&D claims
Responsible for calculating income tax provision entries for current and future income tax accounts for monthly/quarterly/annual financial reporting as required.
Research and plan according to current tax laws and evaluate the tax implications of current and proposed company activities.
Design, recommend and implement effective tax planning strategies to minimize corporate tax liability in accordance with current tax laws and regulations.
Supervise Tax Manager and provide coaching and guidance as needed
Review the work prepared by tax consultants for international tax filings to ensure there are no issues and all filings have been completed, and any issues are resolved on timely manner
Liaise with operations staff to address tax issues of projects in foreign jurisdictions
Work with external auditors to ensure all tax amounts on financial statements are correct and prepare audit working papers for the tax accounts.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team situation and a large capacity for work
Methodical in working spreadsheets with the ability to draw out the underlying trends and explain variances.
Self-starter who can manage work under tight deadlines.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must have excellent presentation skills.
Essential Knowledge, Experience And Qualifications
A four-year university education or equivalent in accounting, plus further specialized tax courses
A professional Canadian accounting designation such as CPA, CA, CMA, and/or CGA is required
Completion or enrollment in CPA In-depth tax program an asset.
Must have experience with corporate tax return preparation experience working with large multinational or large Canadian corporations
Experience preparing tax provisions under US GAAP an asset, as well as Canadian ASPE.
Canadian corporate tax accounting knowledge and demonstrated expertise. International tax experience an asset, (UK, Denmark, USA, Romania, Germany, India) or willingness to learn.
Must have excellent computer, spreadsheet skills. Demonstrated advanced user of Microsoft Excel and intermediate user of other Microsoft Office software.
Knowledge and understanding of SAP systems to extract information required to prepare tax returns is an asset.
A period of up to 10 years’ relevant work experience and supervisory experience
Willingness to learn other areas of tax as necessary to meet the needs of the organization.
