The Federal Transit Administration is seeking a detail-oriented Investigator to serve on audit, investigation, inspection, and review teams. In this role, you may lead teams on occasion, utilizing your extensive, relevant industry knowledge to support the management of project tasks and deliverables. The Investigator will also provide technical oversight as needed to ensure compliance with safety protocols and operational standards within the transit system.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Participate in and support audit, investigation, inspection, and review activities to ensure adherence to safety and operational standards.
- Lead investigation teams when required, facilitating effective collaboration and communication among team members.
- Apply industry knowledge to effectively manage project tasks and deliverables, ensuring quality and timely completion.
- Provide technical oversight during audits and reviews, offering expert guidance as necessary.
- Prepare detailed reports on findings, recommendations, and any identified areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure alignment and compliance with regulatory requirements.
**Education:**
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field; preferred relevant fields include transportation, government, engineering, or business. A Master’s degree is advantageous.
**Training and Certifications:**
- Completion of the Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) Transit Safety and Security Audit Course within the past 5 years is preferred.
- Additional audit or investigative training and certifications are advantageous, provided they are relevant and of high quality.
**Relevant Experience:**
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in audit, investigative, or safety management roles. Additional experience is advantageous.
**Management or Leadership Experience:**
- Management or leadership experience is advantageous.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in safety and risk management specifically within a rail environment is required.
- Experience with Safety and Security Oversight (SSO) program requirements, including 49 USC 5329 and 49 CFR Part 674, is mandatory.
**Skills and Competencies:**
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and collaboration.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrating leadership when necessary.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and industry best practices related to transit safety.
