Job description

This is a remote position.

Job Highlights:
  • Contract type: Independent Contractor
  • Working Hours: Monday to Fridays, 8 hrs per day (40 Hrs per week)

Position Summary:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our finance team. This role is critical in ensuring our financial transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with Australian accounting standards, including GST and BAS requirements. The ideal candidate will be confident working with Xero, and reconciling payments from platforms such as EasyDebit and Stripe.


This is a remote role with flexible working hours, ideally scheduled within client business hours of 9 AM to 5 PM Sydney time.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounts payable, including invoice receipt, coding, and submission to the relevant inbox for processing.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are accurately coded in Xero.
  • Reconcile batch payments from clients via payment gateways such as EasyDebit, Stripe, and Square.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and payable, ensuring timely processing of payments.
  • Post month-end general journals (e.g., accruals, prepayments, stock adjustments) as required by the Finance Manager.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register in Xero.
  • Prepare and submit Business Activity Statements (BAS) and ensure compliance with GST regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records and systems.
  • Assist with payroll and superannuation contributions, if required.

Requirements
  • 2–3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within an Australian business environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero.
  • Experience reconciling transactions from EasyDebit, Stripe, or similar payment gateways.
  • Solid understanding of Australian GST, BAS, and accounting compliance.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal).


Desirable Qualifications:
  • Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or Accounting (or equivalent).
  • Experience working in fast-paced or tech-enabled businesses.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Dext, Hubdoc, or Weel.
