The School of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Analyst to join their team.


This position will have the primary responsibility for the financial management, reporting and analysis of the School of Medicine's facilities operations, capital projects, clinical medicine funds and gift funds. Responsibility also includes ensuring that all activities related to these areas follow state, University, and School of Medicine's policies and procedures.

This position will manage the accounting, analysis and reporting of School of Medicine's facilities operations ($70M annual expenses), clinical medicine fund (over $45M annual revenue for Dean's Office) and gifts/endowments ($11M annual revenue for Dean’s Office). The analyst will serve as a flexible resource making independent decisions while supporting management in strategic planning and initiatives related to these areas of support. This position will be responsible for supporting the needs of the School of Medicine Director of Facilities in all aspects of facilities finances. The incumbent will be responsible for understanding donor intent and restrictions for all Dean's Office gifts and endowments and ensuring uses of funds are in compliance with donor intent as well as maintaining the school's gifts and endowment database systems and processes. Using a high degree of critical thinking and judgment, the analyst will advise managers, directors, and executives on issues related to these areas of support. In addition, the analyst will be responsible for making independent decisions in directing and implementing special projects that may include process review and implementation.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilities Management – 35%

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate financial records for School of Medicine managed facilities.
  • Will oversee all accounting activities related to facilities operations ensuring compliance with state and University policies and procedures.
  • Perform complex financial analysis and provide reports to senior management to facilitate decision making.
  • Will be accountable for South Lake Union, HMC R&T and other miscellaneous facilities operations ensuring complete and accurate collection of facilities indirect cost revenues ($39M) and other fund sources to offset operations and debt service ($70M).
  • This will require comprehensive review and tracking of expenses and various fund sources.
  • Responsibility to include tracking, reporting, and billing of facilities rent to various entities.Clinical Funds Management – 25%
  • Oversight responsibility for School of Medicine's clinical medicine fund including accounts at Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) and University of Washington Physicians (UWP).
  • Ensure all clinical medicine budgets are billed, reconciled and reserves are processed timely.
  • Collaborate with UW Medicine entities and assist with processing and billing institutional support transfers to SoM departments.
  • Ensure that all activities are in compliance with the university and school's policies and procedures.
  • Perform on-going fund analysis and reporting for school-wide needs.Gifts/Endowment Management – 20%
  • Manage the School of Medicine's gifts and endowment accounts.
  • Analyze and manage the accounting and reporting for the Dean's Office gifts ($20M of fund balance) and endowment accounts ($344M current market value).
  • Analyze funding, spending, develop forecasts and reports as well as audit fund activities for compliance within the University and Dean’s Office policies and guidelines.
  • Perform complex financial analysis related to current use gifts, principal and operating endowment accounts as well as providing management with historical, forecast, and ad-hoc reports.
  • The incumbent will review and interpret gift documents, such as donor letters, in order to understand the purpose of the gift and ensure appropriate allocation and spending of funds.
  • The incumbent will manage spending authority on endowment operating and gift accounts and also reviews budget reconciliations/activities for Dean’s Office gifts and endowment accounts.Capital Project Management – 10%
  • Oversee financial aspects of capital project activities within the School of Medicine.
  • Develop and maintain systems to monitor fiscal activities for all School of Medicine construction projects.
  • Will work closely with the School of Medicine Facilities Office to accurately monitor all construction funding and costs.
  • Collaborate with SoM departments and/or Dean’s Office units to identify appropriate fund sources and facilitate timely funding of the projects.Special projects as needed – 10% LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze financial systems and processes and, where appropriate, provide and coordinate revisions to those systems. The Financial Analyst will serve as a resource to the Director in the development, coordination, and implementation of new/revamped systems and will effectively manage project team(s) comprised of departmental personnel, Finance and Administration personnel, and appropriate Information Systems staff. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration: Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Four years’ experience demonstrated in financial or accounting operations, budgeting/forecasting and financial analyses. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Position requires excellent judgment and analytical skills.
  • Requires high level of proficiency in MSWord, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Ability to interpret, document and communicate to others complex policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience working in large, highly structured environments.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious working relationships and effectively address complex and sensitive administrative issues.
  • Proven track record in exercising discretion and independent judgment effectively in decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrated experience handling multiple projects with critical deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Position requires discretion and tact while working with confidential documents.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may be substituted. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with University of Washington financial systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Database management and computers systems administration experience desired.
