We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant to join our North America Finance team. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance while also supporting payroll operations across Canada and the United States. In addition to core accounting responsibilities, you will be the primary liaison with our outsourced Canadian payroll provider and will manage bi-weekly payroll processing in Paylocity for a small U.S.-based employee group across several states.


Note:- This is a Full-Time (Contract) role. It is an 8 months contract with a possibility of extension/conversion into a permanent role.


KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Perform general ledger accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close tasks
  • Assist in preparing internal financial reports and supporting schedules
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts and balance sheet accounts
  • Manage vendor communications, oversee the vendor invoice booking portal and code approved invoices for booking into the accounting system
  •  Manage the employee expense reimbursement portal
  • Prepare and book journal entries based on payroll reports from the external payroll providers into the accounting system
  • Oversee all Accounts Receivable functions to ensure timely and accurate invoicing and collections
  • Review customer engagements to prepare and maintain accurate invoicing schedules for ongoing projects
  • Generate and send invoices to customers, monitor AR aging reports and proactively follow up with customers on past-due invoices to facilitate timely payments
  • Support external audits and internal financial reviews with required documentation
  • Coordinate with external advisors for preparation of financial reports for operations in Mexico
  • Prepare and file GST/HST returns in Canada and assist with corporate tax filings, and other regulatory reporting
  • Assist with treasury functions and cashflow reporting

Canadian Payroll Liaison

  • Act as the point of contact with our outsourced Canadian payroll provider
  • Review and validate payroll data, ensuring accuracy of hours, salaries, bonuses, and deductions
  • Coordinate with People & Culture (P&C) and payroll provider on new hires, terminations, and compensation changes
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian federal and provincial labor and payroll laws

U.S. Payroll Administration

  • Run bi-weekly payroll in Paylocity for a small group of employees across multiple states
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of wages, deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings
  • Maintain employee payroll records in Paylocity and ensure multi-state compliance
  • Monitor federal and state tax filings and collaborate with Paylocity to resolve discrepancies
  • Stay up to date with evolving U.S. payroll tax regulations

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the People & Culture team on compensation-related data and employment changes
  • Partner with the Sales team to ensure smooth AR operations
  • Liaise with global finance team members for intercompany accounting and reconciliation
  • Continuously improve accounting workflows and support process improvement initiatives

Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required. A strong academic foundation in financial principles, auditing, and reporting standards is essential to succeed in this role.
  • Advanced coursework or continuing education in payroll administration, tax compliance, or financial systems is considered an asset.
  • Ongoing professional development and commitment to staying current with evolving accounting regulations and payroll legislation is encouraged.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a multi-national organization, with exposure to cross-border financial operations, compliance, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated experience with full-cycle accounting including month-end close, general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting with solid understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience with a leading accounting or professional services firm will be considered a strong asset.
  • Hands-on experience coordinating with outsourced payroll providers (preferably in Canada) and managing the end-to-end U.S. payroll process using a system like Paylocity is highly valued.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial (Canada) and multi-state (U.S.) payroll tax laws, statutory reporting, and employment standards.
  • Previous involvement in audit preparation, both internal and external, and experience responding to auditor inquiries is a plus.

ENVIRONMENT/TOOLS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas, and data validation) is required for day-to-day reconciliations and reporting.
  • Experience with DynamicsNAV/Business Central or similar accounting software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with collaborative tools like Google Workspace, Slack, and project tracking tools (e.g., Jira or Trello) is an asset in our agile, tech-driven environment.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a structured, analytical mindset—critical for reviewing payroll inputs, reconciling ledgers, and ensuring financial accuracy.
  • Discretion and professionalism in managing sensitive and confidential information related to employee compensation, taxes, and benefits.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain payroll processes and financial concepts clearly across teams and to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively across finance and HR functions.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly when addressing payroll discrepancies or process improvements.
