Job Description

Overview

Vanderlande’s Site Management Department manages the Installation and project execution of Material Handling Systems, Warehouse Automation and Parcel Sortation systems for our customers throughout North America. The increasing number of new projects and their geographical spread means the team is growing and expanding. You will report hierarchically to the Electrical Department Manager, and daily to the Sr. Site Manager and/or Construction Manager. In this position, you will be working within a Site Management project team to manage the installation of material handling automation and sortation systems. You will oversee one (or more) electrical subcontractor(s) working on large and complex projects, ensuring the electrical installation is performed safely while maintaining compliance with quality standards, project specifications, and technical requirements.

Position Summary:

You will be the primary point of contact for electrical subcontractors, providing clear and detailed communications to the internal project staff, subcontractors, and customer. Typical project length is between 6-12 months, in which you will be personally responsible for tracking electrical progress and quality, forecasting schedule adherence, maintaining redline updates, and resolving or escalating any discrepancies in electrical design, customer standards, provided drawings or other information. You are expected to be initiative-taking in reporting requirements, resolving logistical, technical, or organizational problems, and ensuring effective communication with all required parties regarding progress, out of scope work, non-conformities, and all other site related issues. This role is up to 100% travel, and it is expected to work 50 to 60 hours per week with overtime after 40 hours worked. This position includes a cost covered home leave benefit at 6-week intervals, phone, computer, as well as training opportunities relevant to the position.

Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):

•  Ensured subcontractors execute safe installations, alterations, additions, and/or repairs of electrical systems, associated materials, and equipment within the material handling industry.

•  Directly responsible for managing subcontractors with expected crew sizes of up to 100 concurrent workers, on projects totaling over $50M.

•  Engage in an active role with onsite vendors to supplement the electrical installation.

•  Coordinate with the subcontractor(s) to confirm project scope of work and ensure that personnel, materials, tools, equipment, etc. are scheduled on time to meet construction schedules.

•  Coordinate with the electrical subcontractor(s), project team, and customer to ensure electrical equipment and devices installed confirm to electrical code requirements and internal/customer specifications.

•  Provide consistent and independent verification of electrical project progress during daily/weekly meetings between electrical subcontractor(s) and project team.

•  Ensure that all aspects of the electrical installation are installed per detailed engineering drawings, and that any redline updates are distributed to the electrical subcontractor(s) as well as the project engineering team.

  • Perform a full electrical progress completion assessment with your electrical subcontractor(s) weekly and align on stated progress vs seen progress.

•  Validate and maintain all required turnover documentation from the electrical subcontractor(s). To include but not limited to area ready report, installation completion checks, pre-power checks, power on test reports, field wiring test reports, precommissioning checks, and system/area turnover documentation.

  • Maintain electrical project budget by forecasting issues, mitigating change orders, and ensuring the electrical project team adheres to the expected hours of work throughout project lifecycles.

Position Description:

•  Ensure that all industrial networking is installed and certified as detailed in the engineering drawings

•  Collaborate with electrical supervisors across project sites to find innovations and improvements to improve efficiency, cost, and design.

•  Be accountable for the onsite supervision of electrical subcontractor(s) in such a way to ensure completion of projects within established budget, scheduled, quality and performance standards. Ability to evaluate progress against goals.

•   Assist project leadership in reviewing project documents, plans, and specifications, directing installation priorities, resolving construction difficulties, coordinating field installations, project close-outs, and developing and/or supporting subcontractors/customer relationships.

•  Complete assigned tasks within the standard operating procedures, project costs, time constraints, and quality standards.

•  Assist with routine equipment trial runs to ensure that it meets specifications and ensure equipment is installed to Vanderlande and/or client standards.

•  Aid with training of subcontractors in the installation of

Vanderlande and others equipment.

•  Maintain a high degree of safety awareness and a rigorous standard of personal and site safety.

  • Track and record electrical project deliverables, subcontractor performance and staffing levels, areas of improvement in project scope, schedule, cost, and design.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

•  5+ years of experience working with electro-mechanical equipment.

  • Ability to travel on short notice to address urgent project requirements.
