Description:

Social entrepreneurs are change agents who challenge the status quo by using social enterprise and social innovation to address protracted social problems. This course is designed for students who want to explore social enterprise start-ups, as well as those students who are just curious about the field and want to learn more about entrepreneurship and explore career opportunities. Students will learn the requisite knowledge and skills to develop their own health business feasibility plan that explores starting a new social venture, nonprofit, or commercial enterprise.
 

The University of Toronto instructor will be co-facilitating the course with their KNUST counterpart. Partnering University: Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana.

 

Estimated course enrollment:  ~ 30 students 
 

Estimated TA support: n/a

 

Class schedule: Virtual, 3-hour seminar-style sessions; occurring from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM EST between June 23rd, 2025 – July 9th, 2025. 

 

Sessional dates of appointment:  June - July 2025

 

Salary (0.25 FCE):  

Sessional Lecturer I - $4,823.53
Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term - $5,162.10
Sessional Lecturer II - $5,162.10
Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term - $5,285.01
Sessional Lecturer III - $5,285.01
Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term - $5,417.66

Minimum qualifications:  Master’s Degree or higher in Health Sciences or a related field. 

 

Preferred qualifications:  Previous experience in teaching, project management, social innovation projects, translational research, and student evaluation. 

 

Description of duties:  The instructor will be responsible for achieving the course objectives: broadening students' understanding of the ecosystem, identifying social problems, and fostering social value creation. They will need an introduction to the role of social entrepreneurs in addressing societal issues and driving impactful change.  The instructor will be responsible for designing class activities and take-home activities, creating the mid-term and contributing to the final examination.
