Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) systems engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position will learn how to and will perform design and stress analyses of piping in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III, and outer components based on applicable regulatory requirements. All work within the NSSS design organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Perform and check engineering evaluations in accordance with NuScale company procedures and the requirements defined in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III and the ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code with direction provided by senior engineers.
  2. Prepare engineering deliverables, including equipment specifications, CAD models, drawings, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of piping, pipe supports and other components associated with the NSSS with direction provided by senior engineers.
  3. Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  4. Possess strong communication skills.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required.  A Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree is preferred. 
  • Experience: Experience in the following areas is desired:
    • Use of CAD software (Siemens NX, or similar)
    • Use of analysis software (e.g. Auto PIPE, ANSYS Mechanical)
    • Experience solving complex mechanical problems with multiple requirements. 
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.  
  • Skills: Strong technical writing skills. Good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases.

Pay and Benefits: 

The target pay range for this position is $70,737 - $85,373 annually.  The full pay range is $63,420 - $99,195.
