Sentara Health is currently seeking a full-time remote Underwriter.
Position Status: Full-time, Day Shift

Standard Working Hours: 8:00AM to 5:00PM
The Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, assessing, and managing the risk associated with insuring individuals or businesses. This role involves reviewing applications for insurance coverage, determining the terms and conditions of policies, and making decisions about whether to approve or decline coverage based on risk assessments and company guidelines. The Underwriter utilizes statistical data, financial statements, and other relevant information to make informed decisions, ensuring that policies are both competitive and profitable for the organization.
Learns advanced principles and policies of underwriting. Responsible for accurately developing individual and/or employer group rates with minimal guidance from manager. Works with the sales department to finalize rates and develop appropriate benefit alternatives as appropriate.
Bachelor's level degree
No specific certification or licensure requirements
Health Underwriting - 2 years Required
Preferred experience in prospect rating, renewal rating, and self-funding
