Primary Function

The Underwriter - Scenario is responsible for acting as a subject matter expert in Underwriting Newrez products, processes, and interpretation of investor guidelines. This position is primarily responsible for providing detailed underwriting guidance and proactive lending solutions to our Sales partners and clients.

Principal Duties

  • Responsible for reviewing loan scenarios and providing lending solutions to our Sales partners and clients.
  • Exercise appropriate judgment and authority in interpreting and providing loan solutions based on knowledgeable decisions.
  • Effectively escalate credit risk and underwriting related questions as needed.
  • Create lending solutions through proactive problem solving, researching, and answering product, process, and guideline questions.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic business relationships.
  • Demonstrate commitment to, and compliance with, NewRez credit risk philosophy.
  • Provide best in class customer service.
  • Analyze borrower’s credit profile, collateral, and capacity to repay the proposed mortgage obligation.
  • Complete fully developed income calculations for various loan products.
  • Stay informed of current and acceptable underwriting practices.
  • Maintain and cultivate effective working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Prioritize work queue to ensure service level agreements are met.
  • Consistently meet or exceed established minimum productivity and quality goals.
  • Provide quality control responses in a timely manner.
  • Act as a role model of the company’s values, acting in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
  • Embrace company culture.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience Requirements  

  • Minimum 4 years of residential loan underwriting experience.
  • Strong processing background preferable.
  • High school diploma required.
  • College diploma preferred.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements  

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to make risk-based lending decisions supported with relevant data and research.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Knowledgeable with MS Office.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Great organizational skills.
