Job Summary: The Payer Contracting Specialist is responsible for supporting the negotiation of payer contracts, ensuring compliance with payer rate agreements, and maintaining fee schedules in the company’s systems. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify and resolve underpayments or discrepancies in payer rates.
Salary range: $65,000-75,000k
Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and negotiation of payer contracts to secure favorable reimbursement rates and terms.
Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, finance, revenue cycle, and operations, to ensure alignment between payer contracts and business objectives.
Conduct a thorough analysis of payer reimbursement rates to verify compliance with contractual agreements.
Detect underpayments and discrepancies in payer rates and work closely with the billing and accounts receivable teams to resolve them.
Track payer performance against contractual agreements and generate reports for leadership.
Maintain and update payer fee schedules within company systems to ensure accurate reimbursement.
Summarize payer rate trends and develop reports to identify opportunities for cost recovery or rate adjustments.
Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries related to payer contracts and rate adjustments.
Maintain accurate contract files and ensure periodic reviews for compliance with corporate policies.
Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong understanding of payer reimbursement methodologies and fee schedule management.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret payer contracts.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and contract management systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments and with external payers.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Licensure/Certifications/Education
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in payer contracting, revenue cycle management, or healthcare finance.
Experience working in a multi-state healthcare environment (dermatology experience a plus).
Knowledge of billing and coding systems (e.g., Modernizing Medicine, Epic, Cerner) preferred.
