Responsibilities

The DataPlace Tech Manager ensures that accurate and reliable data is available for analysis, enabling data-driven decisions across the healthcare organization. They accomplish this by leading multiple workgroups in technical design & build, maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure. The Tech Manager strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product design and reduce waste, through building and supporting an engaged, empowered team. A successful associate in this role is a people-person that is curious about the business uses of data to drive value-based outcomes with their technical influence of design and engineering delivery of products.

Responsibilities

  • Leverages engineering knowledge and experience to coach and manage workgroups across all stages of development (design, coding, testing, release, etc). Always working to improve development practices, team efficiency, consistency and reusability where possible while delivering high quality.
  • Hire, coach and develop high performing data engineering team members
  • Demonstrate competence with epic/story/issue/bug identification, management, roadmapping, and other delivery tools.
  • Collaborate and communicate development resourcing needs and strategy.
  • Partner with Product and Architecture to foster empowered data product delivery teams operating effectively at all levels.
  • Manage cross-team dynamics to ensure the entire team is successful and consistent, proactively instituting process improvements across team
  • Practice effective internal and external communication, ensuring that priorities, development metrics and outcomes are well communicated and understood.
  • Create product development technical designs, partnering with architecture and ADDG Leadership Team.
  • Drive dependencies, risks and issue resolution
  • Healthcare knowledgeable, on relevant aspects of the business
  • Business knowledgeable, understand the various dimensions of the Ascension business. (eg: Revenue cycle, clinical, operational, compliance, legal, marketing, etc)
  • Works closely with business analysts, product owners, architecture, QA teams to ensure products and features deliver the expected (quantifiable) outcomes to the business as defined in the business requirements.
  • Prides oneself on having deeper and more well-rounded knowledge of data engineering practices and business processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Not bothered by constant chaos and doesn’t expect everything to be completely logical to drive iterative development and progress

Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 3 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 2 years of cumulative experience OR 7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • 3 years of leadership or management experience preferred.

Additional Preferences

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering role using either Python, Java, Spark, and SQL.
  • Expertise with leading a team of talented engineers and developers.
  • Ability to split time between hands on development using Python, Java, Spark, SQL and design, delivery
  • Proven hands on experience developing scalable and repeatable frameworks, patterns, methodologies, and automations and the ability to lead a team of engineers to adopt.
  • Experience in a large scale, high-volume data warehouse environment.
  • Expertise with modern open-source database development skills.
  • Cloud Experience in either Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Personnel, engineering, and project management skills
  • Strong tactical approach to engineering deliverables, contributor to higher level strategy
  • Leadership, teambuilding, and mentoring skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills; excels at crucial conversations
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, attention to detail
  • Data analytics skills and experience
  • Flexible thinking, including the ability to pivot and try new approaches when faced with challenges
  • Organizational, planning, and documentation skills
  • Proficiency using presentation software to explain complex information to non-technical management personnel and other stakeholders
