Who are we?
Newmedica are one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing, and eye surgery. We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health.
Our services are delivered through a variety of models including Managed Services and primarily Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) Partnerships, with each eye centre focused on providing excellent care to their communities.
We care for thousands of NHS and private patients a year and we have significant growth plans over the next few years as we look to establish a national footprint and open many new sites.
We are thrilled to say that following an independently conducted survey of Newmedica colleagues, we have been certified as a Great Place to Work for the second-year running and have been listed among the UK’s top 50 Best Workplaces for 2025. This is a global benchmark that recognises employers who create an outstanding employee experience.
Overview of the role
Reporting to the Head of Contracting, the Senior Contracts Manager will take responsibility for the development and ongoing management of Newmedica’s contracts, ensuring that key relationships are maintained and that contractual requirements are consistently met across the portfolio.
So, what will I be doing?
As Senior Contracts Manager, you will proactively manage Newmedica’s contractual relationships with commissioners, ensuring that we deliver on all contractual responsibilities and requirements. You will develop strong partnerships with stakeholders in each service locality, building a comprehensive understanding of commissioner and contract requirements and local needs, challenges and opportunities.
Monitoring contract performance and delivery of contractual requirements, identifying early warning signs and implementing remedial actions where required will be a key part of your role. In addition, you will act as the first point of contact for commissioners and stakeholders, working efficiently to remedy any issues that arise.
What skills and experience do I need?
We are looking for someone with existing experience of NHS Contracting/commissioning and/or healthcare contracts. You’ll have gained this experience in the NHS or independent healthcare sector and as such you’ll have a good working knowledge of the NHS Standard Contract and associated legislation. Ideally you will have experience of tender writing or evaluation, although this is not essential.
You’ll be an experienced and effective communicator; able to research and write varied materials such as reports, bids, and proposals, understanding different audience needs. So, it goes without saying that your communication skills across all mediums are excellent. You will need to have a good eye for detail and first class interpersonal and written skills.
You’ll be dealing with substantial amounts of complex data so your ability to review, analyse and understand data sets will be crucial, as will your attention to detail. Also, whilst you’ll be working as part of a larger team, you’ll also have your own individual workload, so you’ll have demonstrable experience of managing your own time and priorities.
You’ll be working with a wide range of people, both within Newmedica and with external parties, so you’ll be very skilled in effective stakeholder engagement.
If you are shortlisted, you will be asked to complete a short video interview as the next stage of the process. There will then be face to face interviews in London w/c 12th May.
