About the Role
Second Nature is building a high-integrity finance function that supports the company’s growth while upholding accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. We’re looking for a detail-driven Accounts Payable Specialist to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with 2–4 years of accounts payable experience in a fast-paced startup organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounting email inbox and translate vendor communications into daily invoice entry in Bill.com.
  • Own daily AP processes.
  • Review and process 15–25 vendor bills weekly, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Review Brex card transactions for receipts & GL coding.
  • Journal entries for weekly bank activity, i.e. sales tax
  • Review Bill.com quarterly for vendor W-9s.
  • Maintain and update vendor records in Bill.com, including quarterly W-9 compliance checks.
  • Assist other team members as needed, cross train with cash applications.
  • Assist with month-end close, including reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting documentation.
  • Partner with internal teams and communicate with vendors regarding payments, documentation, and AP processes.
  • Handle and protect highly confidential financial information with the utmost discretion.

Tools You’ll Use

Bill.com – Invoice entry, approvals, vendor management, and W-9 tracking

Brex – Corporate card transaction reviews, receipt matching, GL coding

NetSuite – General ledger, journal entries, and reporting

Google Workspace, Slack, and internal ticketing systems

 

About you

  • 2+ years experience in accounts payable/data entry
  • Analytical, accurate and organized 
  • Confident working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong sense of urgency and ownership
  • Experience handling sensitive financial information 
  • Familiarity with Bill.com, Brex, NetSuite (or similar tools)



30, 60, 90-Day Success Metrics

30 Days:
Trained on systems: Bill.com, Brex, and NetSuite
Comfortable navigating the accounting inbox
Enters daily invoices accurately and meets AP deadlines
Reviews Brex card transactions weekly
Begins learning vendor communication protocol


60 Days:
Independently manages daily AP entries
Processes weekly vendor bills reporting
Performs weekly journal entries and reconciliations for bank activity
Demonstrates accuracy and efficiency in invoice matching and GL coding
Maintains W-9 records and begins handling vendor outreach
 

90 Days:
Fully owns AP workflow from invoice to reporting
Contributes to month-end close tasks independently
Identifies and resolves AP discrepancies without supervision
Cross-trained in cash applications
Provides suggestions for process or system improvements
