Your day at NTT DATA
There will be a high degree of autonomy within the role, but ultimately working as part of the wider legal team and under the supervision and guidance of - and reporting to the Vice President – Global Legal. Candidates will be expected to be able to apply legal knowledge and analysis independently although supervision, guidance and ongoing training will be provided.
The Legal Counsel is an experienced professional with strong experience, knowledge and understanding of employment laws in the US, who is also interested in corporate matters.
The Legal Counsel will work closely with the regional HR team to advise on a number of employee and policy related matters, ensuring timely, business-focused, and relevant advice to stakeholders.
In addition, the Legal Counsel will manage the corporate matters for the USA in collaboration with the Global Legal team by implementing best practice methods for holding and managing board meetings, resolutions, and good corporate governance.
It is intended that through the learning and development opportunities created by this role, the candidate will develop to become a senior and trusted business legal advisor and a key contributor to the team.
There will be some delegation and oversight of work to paralegals and outside counsel.
What you'll be doing
Responsibilities/Duties:
Employment
- Provide excellent, pragmatic and business-oriented legal advice in all areas of employment law, including the hire-to-retire lifecycle of an employee
- Develop and implement best practices and policies to ensure compliance with applicable regulations at local and international levels
- Draft a variety of employment-related documents, templates, and HR policies
- Define and regularly provide training to HR team on processes, regulatory updates, and best practices, in coordination with other team members across regions
- Support internal employee relations investigation team by providing guidelines for each matter and on-going support to bring each investigation to a close with a clear recommendation
- Manage employment-related litigation, including tracking of matters, budget consultations and management of external counsel, and internal stakeholder management
Corporate
- Manage and conduct board meetings for a number of entities in the Americas region, including drafting minutes and resolutions, storing and updating internal trackers for stakeholder visibility
- Maintain corporate register and statutory books for the Americas region
- Support mergers and acquisitions with due diligence, as needed on a per-project basis
- Provide ad hoc support to the Portfolio Management team
- Advise company management on complex matters, using persuasion in delivering messages, with the ability to adapt style to differing audiences and often advises others on difficult matters, including potential risks in contractual, regulatory, compliance, financial, and legal areas.
Requirements:
- Applies experience and professional knowledge to develop and resolve complex issues in creative ways, to deliver distilled and robust legal and commercial advice
- Strong and calm tactical decision-maker, handles unforeseen issues
- Interacts with internal and external stakeholders calmly under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong experience in contract and policy drafting
- Strong experience in employment law (ideally in-house)
- Developed business acumen, and the ability to combine legal and business analysis and judgment in a practical manner
- Self-starter, well organized, effectively manages stress in a fast-paced environment and produces consistent, positive results under deadline pressure
- Ability to work well both independently (on a remote basis) and as part of a highly collaborative team
- Recognizes cultural norms and practices in differing target regions
- English language as a must have (plus another European or Asian language as highly desirable).
- Good command of standard IT platforms.
- Willingness to travel internationally as required.
- Current member of the legal bar in good standing with governing organization for counsel.
- LLB Bachelor’s degree in law, Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, or equivalent.
- Minimum four+ (4+) years relevant industry or in-house experience.

- Data center industry experience a plus, but employment experience is compulsory
- Comfortable working remotely (within USA), but with the ability to work in a team.
This is a remote position that requires reliable internet connection and electricity. A monthly stipend is provided to cover expenses associated with working remotely and use of a personal mobile device, if applicable.
NTT Global Data Centers Americas, Inc. offers competitive compensation based on experience, education, and location. Base salary for this position is $ 165,000.00 - $ 190,000.00.
All regular full-time employees are eligible for an annual bonus; payout is dependent upon individual and company performance.
