Position Summary 

Supports Forgen contract strategy, with focus on government contracting, and drives implementation of strategic contract opportunities.  Champions contract policy and procedure revision and improvement. Understands the business case and has an appreciation of the financial (risk-reward) and profit and loss implications of the contracts to be reviewed and negotiated. In conjunction with the General Counsel, reviews all new contracts and change orders for the Project to assess risk, ensure proper drafting, and advise project leadership. Provides contracting and claims support on ongoing and new issues confronting the project focusing on owner and subcontractor disputes, change management, and insurance claims.

  • Reviews complex contracts/subcontracts and prepares specialized and/or non-routine response for proposals, bids and contract modifications with an eye to identify and report contract deficiencies and defects to management and the legal department.
  • Lead the preparation and revision/redlines of contracts including analysis of significant, and/or unique contract requirements, special provisions, terms and conditions to ensure policy compliance upon contract award.
  • Coordinate, advise, and provide contract support for construction project teams to ensure prompt processing of amendments and change orders as well as ensure contract compliance.
  • Assist General Counsel with change management including but not limited to change orders, owner directed changes, dispute resolution, and provide claims and litigation support.
  • Strong interpretive, written and negotiations skills.
  • Review project reports for sufficient and appropriate language.
  • Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed. 

Basic Qualifications  

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (and ability to become licensed in state of residence).
  • Seven (7) or more years of relevant legal experience, with significant experience relating to federal services contracting (e.g., FAR/DFARS) for clients in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction law through demonstrated experience advising federal and commercial construction clients, reviewing and negotiating owner agreements, and/or handling and resolving construction change orders and disputes.
  • Strong experience with Government (Federal, State and City) services, contract administration, and procurement required. Construction services preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Above average oral and written communication skills, leadership skills, along with use of independent judgement and creativity applied to resolution of contract issues.
  • Highly proactive and responsive to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and advise project leadership on complex issues.
  • Good problem-solving skills/decision-making skills. 

Physical Demands & Work Environment 

This office-based role requires frequent computer use and effective communication, with occasional travel to project sites as needed. Site visits may involve extended periods of standing or walking and required PPE, with potential exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and extreme weather.

Pay Range
$160,000$190,000 USD
