Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Clerk

Position Summary/Objective

Remote position in or around the Dayton, Ohio area

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Clerk (Section 8) is responsible for the receipt and accounting of funds received by the organization for residents on housing assistance programs.  This role will maintain and reconcile resident ledgers with responsibilities of collection for HCV (Section 8) Payments. This position is a primary contact for Housing Authorities and residents within the program. The HCV (Section 8) Clerk will be a liaison between Housing Authorities and VineBrook Property Management.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives and posts all Housing Choice Voucher payments to accounts receivable ledgers accurately and timely.  Ensures proper accounting procedures are followed to account for the receipt of rent payments and other billable accounts.  Maintains accuracy with posting payments according to company policy
  • Posts all receipt batches, and all non-tenant payments received according to company policy
  • Processes Housing Choice Voucher lease renewals
  • Follows up on any Housing Choice Voucher escrows to ensure timely resolutions
  • Ensures Housing Authorities receive copies of all resident notices 
  • Completes Change of Ownership paperwork for timely set up with applicable Housing Authorities 
  • Processes any returned payments from bank
  • Researches and resolves ledger discrepancies and adjusts ledgers as needed
  • Corresponds with residents regarding payment discrepancies.  Provides residents with online payment information and processes
  • Coordinate with field team to remediate any outstanding items from any Housing Authority failed inspections
  • Assists with Occupied Acquisitions onboarding of Housing Choice Voucher Housing Authority and resident leases
  • Performs general office duties such as filing, assists with incoming/outgoing calls and emails and routine correspondence
  • Other job duties as assigned that the incumbent is trained for or qualified to perform

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience working with Housing Choice Vouchers/Housing Authorities   
  • Basic knowledge of Housing Choice Voucher Programs, agencies, and workflows
  • Must possess professional caliber customer service skills
  • Must possess exceptional organizational skills
  • Microsoft 365 proficiency
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, for written, verbal, and in person communication.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize work to include time management, prioritizing, responding timely and effectively to day-to-day problems, handling multi-tasks, meeting deadlines, etc.
  • Salesforce/Yardi Experience preferred
