Job Description Summary

The Risk Management Capabilities leader will be responsible for driving the organization's success by ensuring that Risk Management & Client Services can expand, transform, and continuously improve its services to exceed our client needs effectively. The role will set the digital strategy leveraging technology and advanced data analysis to improve our data driven decision making. The role will be the liaison between Risk Management and Marketing to oversee industry practice campaigns while managing vendor relationships to increase our services while decreasing our costs. The position will oversee the claims servicing strategy including overseeing the development and implementation of the Claims Portal and Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS) tool.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Develop the digital innovation strategy leveraging technology, data management, third-party vendors, and client-facing tools to enhance efficiencies, enable data-driven decision-making, and improve client satisfaction. 

  • Research, development and deployment of technology solutions for the Risk Management & Client Services team to meet and exceed the needs of the Small Market, Middle Market, E & S and Specialty organization. Technology solutions should increase efficiencies and effectiveness of our organization, partners and customers.   

  • Partner with Risk Management & Client Services, leadership, underwriting and other internal departments across the CL, E & S and Specialty organization to understand their data needs, obstacles, and opportunities. Utilize the risk management survey data, claims data, policy data, and third-party data to provide World Class Underwriting Company decision making abilities.  

  • Represent Risk Management & Client Services through interactions with Marketing that supports our industry expertise and market leading services. 

  • Streamline processes and reduce cycle time through optimized vendor utilization. Research and recommend third-party solutions to business partners. Develop roadmap with Field and Technical leaders and oversee implementation projects. 

  • Develop and execute a strategy leveraging technology to provide timely and accurate information to our clients including a Claims Portal and RMIS solution. Oversee the Claims Portal and RMIS project to completion and implementation. 

  • Shape the strategy for claims services, including the Claims Business Consulting team and the team members needed to support a fully functioning RMIS tool. 

  • Support website, resource publications, compliance, standards of work, and cross functional interaction from an operational perspective that supports Risk Management & Client Services efforts to exceed the expectations of the CL/ESS organization. 

  • Oversees associate management including performance management, engagement, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organization planning, day-to-day management, hiring and placement, and corrective actions for direct and possibly indirect reports.  

 May perform other responsibilities as assigned.   

 

Reporting Relationships:  Reports to Sr. AVP, Risk Management, CL/ESS and will lead a team of 4-6 Direct Reports and 16 Indirect Reports. 

 

Typical Skills and Experiences:   

 

EducationUndergraduate studies preferably in risk management or a related field, graduate studies preferred. 

 

License/Certification/Designation: CPCU, CSP, ARM or other industry designations preferred.        

 

ExperienceTypically, 15+ years of commercial risk management and/or other related experience to include extensive technical knowledge, project management, technology solutioning and at least 5 years of management experience. 

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:   

Comprehensive knowledge of industry strategy including risk management, underwriting, operations, and finance. Strong business acumen with expertise in risk management within multiple industry segmentsDemonstrated competency in strategic and organizational agility and managing a vision and purposeHas strong problem-solving skills and proven record of strong decision quality. Strong analytical skills and aptitude for financial evaluation of business performanceAbility to collaborate and build strong relationships across the organization. Can influence how we drive results, deal with ambiguity, and communicate effectively at all levels in the organizationStrong self-starter who is innovative with initiative. Proven track record of setting goals and delivering results. Extensive risk management expertise with the ability to integrate knowledge across product lines and segments. Experienced in leading large projects, setting strategies and executing them through a collaborative team in risk management, claims data management and IT. Understanding of Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS). Knowledge of commercial property & casualty; insurance operations; finance concepts; regulatory environment; account management; data analytics, data architecture; decision making, building relationships; courage; innovation; communicating effectively, engaging and motivating people; negotiation; influencing others; managing and improving processes; executing well; planning and organizing work. 

 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for Sr Director, Risk Management Capabilities - Commercial and E&S/Specialty : $127,000.00-$250,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Sr Director, Risk Management Capabilities - Commercial and E&S/Specialty : $134,000.00 - $224,000.00
