Job description

The design team is composed of product designers and content writers. We have a strong working partnership with our user research team and are supported by a product & design operations team. We have amazing partners! Product designers are partnered with product management and engineering at the squad level, so we have consistent teams to grow and succeed with. As a design lead, you will be responsible for the experience within an entire product layer (for example, banking) and providing guidance to other designers in your area. Additionally, you will serve as a thought leader and mentor for the design organization as a whole. 

What you’ll do: 
  • Own and lead the end-to-end design process of new features as well as iterations on a product that is used by millions of people.

  • We’re looking for an on-trend, high-value aesthetic designer who equally enjoys 0-to-1 new concept design and enhancing existing products to make them best in class. You will contribute to creating and optimizing a sustainable experience that leads to long-term, engaged users.

  • Own product design and direction for your group. This requires you to be actively involved in defining strategy as you will contribute to defining your group’s goals, success metrics, roadmap, and sprint commitments.

  • Develop thoughtful, impactful solutions to complex design problems.

  • Proactively communicate with partners and leaders to balance the trade-offs of time spent innovating with the ability to ship quickly and successfully. Manage your design roadmap accordingly.

  • Articulate, negotiate, and refine design requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineers to arrive at the best design solutions. You will visualize and advocate for product and design growth over successive releases.

  • Work collaboratively with your PM and Eng partners to identify and solve user, product, and business problems.

  • Mentor fellow designers, helping them to think more critically and strategically and improve their craft.

What you’ll need: 
  • 8+ years of product design experience in financial services or other relevant consumer product design domains

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field

  • Practical experience shipping interactive products that have solved problems for large audiences, and have demonstrated impact.

  • A strong portfolio of product design work, including designs that showcase both an ability to think longitudinally and in-depth about a given customer problem. App design work is a strong plus.

  • Experience launching new products and/or significant new features (iterative or big bang) with demonstrated levels of success.

  • Strong communication skills with cross-departmental teammates such as engineering, product, user research, and marketing.

  • Ability to work with a low-ego, highly collaborative, cross-functional team.

  • Excited about working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Figma mastery.

  • Strong visual design perspective and ability.

Bonus if you have: 
  • Experience designing for the gig economy or “gig workers”.

  • Experience working on digital products in fintech, insurance, subscription services, or another area where you have an ongoing financial relationship with consumers.
