Sr. Product UX Designer

Role Overview: 

As a Senior Product Designer at Codecademy, you’ll take ownership of an entire product area or business unit, leading design solutions that impact our learners globally. You will play a key role in crafting intuitive, engaging, and user-centered designs that elevate our platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and solve complex challenges, contribute to design strategy, and help shape the overall product direction. Key Responsibilities: 

Product Design Leadership & Ownership:      

• Lead the design of a major product area or business unit, taking full ownership of user experiences and ensuring consistency across touchpoints. 

• Define scope and success criteria for the product areas you own, with little to no oversight. 

• Own design files for large portions of the user experience, ensuring a seamless and cohesive flow throughout the product. 

• Regularly solve complex, high-impact problems and refine user flows to ensure the best possible experience for learners. 

Collaboration & Strategy:      

• Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure your designs align with the team’s goals, business objectives, and user needs. 

• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders in US time zones 

• Contribute to shaping projects based on predefined strategies, selecting appropriate tactics to ensure alignment with overarching business goals. 

• Co-lead large teams and drive design decisions that influence the direction of the product and business. 

• Participate proactively in cross-functional meetings and contribute to the overall design strategy. 

• Collaborate closely with our local team in India and other remote teams in the US, ensuring a strong and unified approach to product design. 

Design Process & Execution: 

• Contribute to the refinement and evolution of Codecademy’s design processes, ensuring consistency and innovation across the product team. 

• Leverage high technical proficiency to create detailed, high-fidelity prototypes and assets, while managing design specifications. 

• Ensure that the user experience is not only visually compelling but also intuitive, accessible, and aligned with business objectives. 

Mentorship & Growth: 

• Assist junior designers with developing their craft, guiding them through design challenges, and promoting best practices in design process. 

• Contribute to the culture of experimentation, critique, and continuous learning within the design team. 

• Actively share knowledge, advocate for user-centered design practices, and help elevate the craft across the team. 

• Manage up by contributing insights into strategy, design, and process improvements to senior leadership. 

Qualifications: 

• 5–8 years of experience in product design, with a proven track record of leading successful design projects from concept to launch. 

• Expertise in UX/UI design, interaction design, and information architecture. 

• Strong portfolio that showcases your design process, problem-solving abilities, and at least several shipped projects. 

• Solid experience in SaaS, EdTech, or similar industries, with a deep understanding of business and user needs. 

• Proficient in design and research tools such as Figma and UserTesting. 

• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including PMs and Engineers, and leading projects in a collaborative environment. 

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and rationale to various stakeholders. 

• Experience working remotely and managing teams or collaborating across time zones, particularly with global teams (India and US). 

• Strong understanding of accessibility principles, user testing, and iterative design. 

• Ability to balance design excellence with business and technical constraints.
