Job Summary and key responsibilities 

Sitting in LRG’s technology function and reporting into the Digital Product & Data Services Director, the Head of Data Services will lead a team of data specialists who will work in close collaboration with business and technology stakeholders from across LRG to define and deliver new data products and services aligned to our business and technology strategy. The role will be accountable for the successful launch of new data products and analytics services across the group and the ongoing maintenance and iterative improvement of existing products and services within the portfolio, eg the existing suite of CRM reporting dashboards.  

The ideal candidate will have an understanding and proven track record of data engineering and reporting, with a focus on enterprise level data products including data lakes. They will have a view on application of emerging data related products and services. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Product definition: Leads the team responsible for the development of data & analytics products and services, aligning development to technology strategy, business drivers and business value, with a customer first focus. Provide direct leadership to ensure that the product specifications that are created enable a desirable, feasible and viable product for the relevant end-user.  
  • Product delivery: The role is ultimately accountable for the digital product(s) that are created and developed within the team, and works closely with the Digital Product Director to ensure the team deliver on-time, on-budget and strategically aligned products and services through careful prioritisation and review. 
  • Product development: the role may also at times and when required contribute to the development and delivery of new digital products and services where there is a requirement for complex product development, or where an existing product requires ongoing improvement or maintenance. 
  • Product standards: defines and sets the standards for product development principles, standards and practices (across product definition, product design and product engineering) and is ultimately responsible for a) ensuring that all digital product developers within the team apply those practices to their various work products and b) continually aid in the active validation and evolution of those practices. 
  • Product roadmap: works closely with the Digital Products Director to ensure ongoing improvement of existing products, defining and documenting roadmaps for high priority products and services. 
  • Cross functional collaboration: works closely with other departments within the Technology function, including the Digital Product team and the Technology Infrastructure team, to ensure new products and services are optimised during the definition, development and release phases  
  • Inspirational team leadership: manages the team to achieve successful outcomes, and supports the ongoing development of the team through inspirational leadership. 

What are we looking for: 

  • Extensive experience in data and analytics, and/or extensive engineering experience. 
  • Hands on experience developing data products, working in data lakes, and/or building analytics capabilities in PowerBI. 
  • Extensive experience in the Microsoft stack including Azure, Synapse, Data Bricks, PowerBI, Power Platform etc. 
  • Experience in leading development teams or squads (for internal or external products). 
  • Knowledge of digital technologies, with an eye toward the continual change in technology, including but not limited to AI, RPA, etc. 
  • Experience developing products and services through a software development lifecycle that leverages agile principles yet recognizes constraints necessary in an environment that has legacy systems, complex integration architecture and multiple platform technologies. 
  • Experience or willingness to learn responsibilities of the scrum master role in Agile to support the team to deliver new products and services in a timely manner – with a specific focus on sprint based delivery planning 
  • Ability to manage a diverse and remote delivery team. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and project/program leadership skills, including the ability to communicate effectively at the senior level within technology and business teams.
