Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Night Shift Data Center Engineer to join our data center operations team. This role is responsible for performing server builds, system hardening, infrastructure monitoring, ticket resolution, and security patching to ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and security of our data center environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in data center operations, server administration, and security best practices.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Server Builds and Hardening:

  • Deploy and configure physical and virtual servers following standardized build processes.
  • Implement security hardening measures in accordance with industry best practices and company policies.
  • Validate server configurations to ensure compliance with security and operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve server provisioning issues in coordination with relevant teams.

 

Monitoring and Incident Response:

  • Continuously monitor data center infrastructure, servers, and network components using monitoring tools.
  • Respond to alerts and incidents promptly, escalating as necessary.
  • Perform root cause analysis and contribute to improving system reliability.
  • Generate reports on system performance, uptime, and incidents.

 

Ticket Work and Support:

  • Manage and resolve support tickets related to hardware, operating systems, and network issues.
  • Follow change management processes for system modifications and deployments.
  • Provide remote and onsite support for troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Document resolutions and update knowledge base articles for common issues.

 

Security Patching and Compliance:

  • Schedule and apply security patches and updates to servers, network devices, and applications.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and remediate identified security risks.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal security requirements.
  • Assist in implementing security policies and controls to safeguard data center infrastructure.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in data center operations, system administration, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of server hardware, virtualization, and storage technologies.
  • Experience with Linux CLI and Windows server administration.
  • Knowledge of security hardening practices and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, CIS benchmarks, PCI DSS, ISO 27001).
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools for ticket management.
  • Hands-on experience with patch management solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle critical incidents during night shifts - may need to call in a team to handle.

 

Preferred:

  • Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, RHCSA, MCSE, or equivalent.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Datadog, or similar.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs).
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Playwrite) for automation.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Night shift schedule with weekend presence required.
  • Ability to lift and install servers and networking equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Comfortable working at home and at times traveling to our data centers.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

  • $85,000 - $110,000 Annual Salary
