Sr. Data Engineer

General

This position is responsible for providing technical and resource leadership to enable data analytics with structured and unstructured data. Responsibilities include leading or executing user story development, data design and architecture, data integration development, testing or BI application delivery in the data analytics framework including surrounding enablement environments. This position will collaborate and/or partner with business areas, project teams, IT technical teams, as well as outsourced vendors to ensure high quality delivery of data architecture and data integration applications focusing on business analytical enablement for medium to large project or support efforts.

What does the job entail?

  • As a technical expert, leads creation and review of highly complex data solutions enforcing best practices, processes and standards for user story development, data analysis, architecture, modeling, design, coding, testing, deployment and scheduling.
  • Leads or oversees the execution of the data management lifecycle to enable business data analytics.
  • Design and develop prototypes or final data solutions to enable the measurement or monitoring of key performance indicators.
  • Responsible for identifying and/or making significant improvement enhancements to existing artifacts to align with enterprise strategy or to improve user experience.
  • Ensure test environment and data readiness is appropriate for support and project deliverables.
  • Accountable for complex test cases in interdependent enterprise systems based on system requirements and technical design documentation, using automation to the fullest extent.
  • Execution and maintenance of manual and/or automated test cases and scripts, as assigned.
  • Analyzes test results and documents defects and issues using the Incident Management Process.
  • Partner with data architects, analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Help build scalable products with robust security, quality and governance protocols.
  • Create low-level design artifacts, including mapping specifications.
  • Build scalable and reliable data pipelines to support data ingestions (batch and /or streaming) and transformation from multiple data sources using SQL, AWS, Snowflake, and data integration technologies.
  • Create unit/integration tests and implement automated build and deployment.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure standards and best practices.
  • Deploy, monitor , and maintain production systems.
  • Use the Agile Framework to organize, manage and execute work.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, initiative and attention to detail through deliverables and ways of working.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in a quantitative discipline: Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, etc
  • 5+ years of data infrastructure experience
  • Strong software engineering background with significant coding experience (java/scala, python, sql, etc...)
  • Practical and relevant experience with two or more data warehouse and big data technical tools
  • Experience with storage, ETL/ELT processes and orchestration with AWS Cloud Technologies
  • Teradata, Informatica, Wherescape Red, Power experience with Agile/Scrum project methodology
  • Working knowledge of UNIX environment including shell scripting and scheduler (ideally StoneBranch)
  • Experience developing medium complex data integration solutions using two or more of data management software tools.
  • Experienced knowledge in data analysis using SQL, user story development, data warehouse design and modeling (3rd normal form or dimensional modeling), data integration design and development and/or performance tuning.
  • Knowledgeable in data warehouse market best practices, development standards and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to play multiple roles for different projects, e.g., planning/architecting and overseeing development for some projects, being a hands-on technical resource for others.
  • Not only leading and working on strategic and tactical projects, but also understand the importance of details and remaining hands-on to data applications/solution business enablement.
  • Experienced in work estimation, design review and code review.
  • Strong skills in cross team coordination for project execution and issue resolution, as well as working with contracting vendor onsite and offshore.
  • Respond with the appropriate sense of urgency to requests
  • Experience operating within high growth and fast paced company environments
  • Experience with end-user customer support, including strong technical knowledge of Mac OS X, Windows, LDAP, Meraki, Okta, or similar alternatives

Work Environment

Work takes place in an office setting. This job may require working more than 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours a week. It requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time and communicate effectively with a diverse audience in person, by phone and by computer. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift, push, and carry up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 30 lbs occasionally.  

What do we offer?

The pay range for this role is: $161,000 - $172,000  if performed in our San Francisco, CA corporate office. This role can also be performed remotely. The pay range for this position is $145,000 - $155,000, if performed outside of our corporate office.

Allbirds routinely evaluates pay rates, and the ranges are subject to change based on market rates and other considerations.  We factor in a number of components when determining starting pay, including the job and level you are hired into, location, skillset, experience and peer compensation.
