We are currently seeking a Railroad Bridge Engineer for our office located in Brentwood, TN to support a wide variety of bridge engineering assignments, including design of new railroad bridges and other railroad structures (culverts, retaining walls, shoring, foundations, passenger platforms, overhead pedestrian bridges, unloading pits, engine shops, etc.), design of bridge rehabilitation projects, bridge load ratings and construction phase engineering. Daily activities include, but are not limited to, developing structural details and plans, performing structural analysis for bridge substructures and superstructures, development of structural specifications and as well as assisting with geometric layout and quantity development. The Railroad Bridge Engineer will also review plans, check design calculations, estimates and specifications produced by other professional engineers and EITs. This position requires attention to details, strict conformance to project quality control and the ability to provide practical solutions to complex problems. The Railroad Bridge Engineering position will require some travel across the United States with the possibilities of international travel.
Responsibilities:
Perform bridge load ratings and prepare load rating reports.
Perform structural analysis, design calculations and prepare construction plans and details.
Perform construction phase engineering services including shop drawing reviews and responding to contractor requests for information.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering – Structural emphasis.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in bridge design; Railroad experience preferred
Proficient in concrete and steel design
Professional Engineering licensure (PE) preferred but not required
Knowledge of FRA regulations, AASHTO LRFD and AREMA design codes required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and Microstation required.
Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software required. For example, OpenBridge, RAM Elements, RAM Structural Systems, L-pile, Weap, MathCAD and Risa-3D.
Strong communication skills.
Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well with others.
