Job Description:

The Surplus & Specialty Division is seeking a dynamic and innovative leader to join the team as AVP. This role will focus on pricing-related activities for Surplus & Specialty lines of business, managing a small team and supporting the binding authority business unit (potentially additional business units) within the division. Reporting to the VP, Head of S&S Pricing, this position offers the opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial environment with the benefits of a smaller organization (interacting directly with all points from executive to customer, your work impacts the bottom line, visibility throughout the organization), but the security, stability, and opportunity of a large conglomerate.

What you will do:

  • Lead and manage a small team of actuarial professionals, providing mentorship and guidance while ensuring team success.
  • Perform profitability studies and provide business insight for the supported business units, including Binding Authority and other Surplus & Specialty lines.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance predictive rating models and pricing tools tailored to the unique needs of the Surplus & Specialty market.
  • Provide actuarial large account pricing support to underwriters and business units to ensure competitive and profitable pricing.
  • Analyze the book results to identify performance outliers, monitor portfolio health, and uncover growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with underwriting and leadership teams to develop and execute pricing and underwriting strategies for profitable growth.
  • Participate in the development of new products, provide due diligence on new business opportunities, and support regulatory initiatives as needed.

 

What you will bring to C&F:

  • BS in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, or a related major.
  • 10+ years of Commercial P&C Actuarial Pricing experience, with a focus on Surplus & Specialty lines preferred.
  • Experience in commercial line GL, Property and Excess is strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing and mentoring a team.
  • ACAS or FCAS preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products as well as SQL.
  • Knowledge of R and experience with predictive modeling techniques is strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and in writing.
  • The ability to clearly explain actuarial results and drivers to business partners.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a group setting.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $119,700.00 to a maximum of $225,100.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
