This position will oversee and direct accounting, external financial reporting, enterprise risk management, procurement/accounts payable, payroll & equity administration, income tax strategy, treasury and corporate insurance. The position will also lead the finance department of the company’s German subsidiary to effectively monitor general accounting activities and internal controls. In addition, the Chief Accounting Officer will act as co-primary liaison with the Audit Committee (with the CFO) and as primary liaison with external auditor. As a member of the Finance Leadership Team and the Enterprise Leadership Team, this position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a work environment focused on quality, compliance, and that fosters learning, respect, open communication, collaboration, integration, and teamwork.
ResponsibilitiesOversee and lead the staff that supports the organization in the following areas:Lead and develop/manage the controllership function which includes accounting, external reporting, treasury, tax, finance administration (AP, Payroll, Equity) and Germany manufacturing accounting operations teams.Accounting – lead the accounting structure, methods, systems, and operating procedures in accordance with GAAP, FASB, and SEC requirements.External reporting and analysis – lead the Company’s external reporting and analysis of financial and associated business information to internal (including Senior Leadership Team, Audit Committee and Board of Directors), external, and regulatory constituencies (including the SEC and IRS). Ensure timely and accurate reporting including:The monthly, quarterly, and year-end close procedures including the consolidation of foreign subsidiaries.All SEC filings including Form 10-Q, Form 10-K and Form 8-K, support Proxy and other forms filed with SEC.Fulfill all Section 16 officer responsibilities as the principal accounting officer of the companyOverall responsibility for compliance with GAAP and SOX (and other parts of COSO framework including enterprise risk management).Direct and monitor the financial affairs of the company, including treasury, internal and cost control, tax, GL reporting and audit. Determine technical accounting and tax considerations of Company’s significant transactions.Lead external auditor relationships and ensure completion of audit procedures.Identify opportunities and drive projects to improve processes; lead the implementation of these process improvements over time.Support evaluation of corporate development and business development projects including leading accounting, tax, SEC reporting diligence processes with support of external consultants and experts.Lead and develop staff, and ensure that experience, training and development of employees are focused towards building competencies to support both current and future needs of the business.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsRobust technical experience evaluating accounting and tax treatment for complex transactions including but not limited to capital markets transactions, complex contracts and collaborations, and M&A diligence evaluations.Robust understanding and oversight experience on tax strategyDemonstrated experience working collaboratively with senior executives internally and externally, and with employees at all levels of the organization.Proven ability to effectively lead and manage finance professionals.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.Expertise in using all Microsoft Office products including Excel.Integrity and impeccable ethics are absolute requirements.Ability to sit; stand; walk; reach with arms and hands; lift and move small objects; and use hands to keyboard and perform other office related tasks including repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Occasional travel required, as needed.
Education and Certifications Required:
CPA required.15+ years' progressive career experience in accounting/finance with 3+ years in life science industry at publicly traded company.Previous Big Four audit experience.#LI-REMOTE
