About the Role:

Confluent Enterprise Solutions Engineers drive the technical evaluation stage of the overall sales process, making them critical drivers of customer success as real-time data streams become more and more important in the modern enterprise. In this role, you will be the key technical advisor to the sales team, work very closely with the product management and engineering teams, and serve as a vital product advocate in front of prospects, customers, and the wider Kafka and Big Data communities.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Solutions Engineer (pre-sales) to join our team at Confluent, focusing on the public sector. In this role, you will act as a trusted technical advisor, collaborating with sales teams to identify customer challenges, demonstrate the value of Confluent’s event streaming platform, and design tailored solutions for government organisations.

What You Will Do:

• Partner with account executives to drive adoption of Confluent’s data-streaming platform (DSP) within the public sector.
• Lead discovery sessions to understand customer pain points and technical requirements.
• Deliver impactful product demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, and architectural guidance.
• Advocate for the benefits of event-driven architecture and data streaming solutions in modernising government infrastructure.
• Build trusted relationships with key technical stakeholders, including architects, developers, and IT leaders.
• Stay current on industry trends, government compliance requirements, and Confluent’s evolving product suite.
• Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, product, and marketing) to influence product direction and meet customer needs.

What You Will Bring:

• Experience with technical sales / pre-sales / solutions engineering of distributed systems, infrastructure software like databases, message queues, SaaS, or Big Data products
• Exceptional presentation and communications capabilities. Confidence presenting to a highly skilled and experienced audience, including enterprise architects and C-level executives in particular within core public sector organisations inc. but not limited to the likes of HMRC, MoD and the NHS for example.  
• Clear, consistent demonstration of self-starter behavior and a desire to tackle hard technical problems
• Bachelor’s level degree in Computer Science or relevant experience
• Proficiency in Java or Python with experience developing ETL applications
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Familiarity with public sector compliance, procurement processes, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Self-motivated and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

What Gives You an Edge:

• Previous experience building solutions with Apache Kafka
• Experience building and operating large scale systems and appreciation of such within the public sector
• Current or recent UK Security Clearance
