Job description

About The Dispatch:

At a time of growing industry uncertainty and an alarming erosion of civic discourse, The Dispatch stands out as a platform for thoughtful coverage, respectful dialogue and a wildly engaged community of paying members. We bring a perspective —we’re conservatives, classical liberals, libertarians—but we’re fiercely independent, standing apart from media outlets increasingly engaged in partisan boosterism. Started in 2019 by Steve Hayes, the Editor-in-Chief of The Weekly Standard, and Jonah Goldberg, editor at National ReviewThe Dispatch has filled a valuable gap on the center-right in the media ecosystem as captured in articles in Vanity FairThe Atlantic and other publications.

Overview:

We are looking for a creative, data-driven Social Media Manager to execute and refine our multi-platform strategy. This person will be responsible for expanding our reach, deepening engagement, and optimizing content performance to align with evolving platform trends and audience behaviors.

The ideal candidate has a strong editorial sense, experience with social media best practices, and a keen understanding of the digital media landscape—particularly within the news and political journalism space.

Responsibilities:

Content Strategy and Execution
  • Develop and implement a consistent, high-impact posting schedule that optimizes reach and engagement across YouTube, X, Meta, and LinkedIn.
  • Diversify post formats to include threads, polls, short videos, infographics, and interactive content to boost visibility and interaction.
  • Create multimedia content, such as video clips from podcasts, editorial meetings, and breaking news coverage, optimized for each platform.
  • Craft compelling, concise captions and calls-to-action that align with The Dispatch’s editorial voice.
  • Ensure content is tailored for platform-specific best practices (e.g., YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn long-form posts, Meta Stories, and X threads).

  • Engagement & Community Management
  • Actively monitor replies, comments, and trending topics to engage in timely, meaningful conversations with followers across platforms.
  • Develop strategies to encourage more comments, shares, and discussions around The Dispatch’s content.
  • Respond to user inquiries and moderate discussions to foster a respectful, informed community.

  • Branding & Visual Identity
  • Work with designers (or independently create) branded templates for quote cards, breaking news updates, and key takeaways.
  • Maintain a cohesive visual identity that enhances shareability and brand recognition across all platforms.
  • Experiment with behind-the-scenes content to humanize The Dispatch and provide an insider’s look into the newsroom.

  • Analytics & Performance Optimization
  • Track and analyze engagement metrics (views, shares, comments, click-through rates, and follower growth) across YouTube, X, Meta, and LinkedIn.
  • Stay up to date with each platform’s algorithm changes and feature updates, adjusting strategy as needed to maintain visibility.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly performance reviews, making data-driven recommendations for content improvements.

  • Who You Are:
  • 3+ years of experience in social media management, preferably in news, politics, or digital media.
  • Proven ability to grow and engage audiences across multiple platforms using diverse content strategies.
  • Strong editorial judgment and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging posts.
  • Experience with social media analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, YouTube Studio).
  • Familiarity with basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Spark) to create visually appealing content.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced news environment with the ability to react quickly to breaking stories.
  • Passionate about fact-based journalism, media trends, and political discourse.

  • Why Join The Dispatch?
  • Opportunity to shape and lead the social media strategy for a respected journalism brand.
  • Collaborative and mission-driven newsroom that values thoughtful, informed reporting.
  • Work in a dynamic and fast-moving digital media environment.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • We’re committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
