Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) is the premier certification body responsible for global delivery and quality oversight of green building and green business sustainability standards. Its integrated team of green building specialists administers credentials and certifications for the U.S. Green Building Council (LEED), the International WELL Building Institute (WELL Building Standard), International Finance Corporation (EDGE), PEER, Sustainable SITES, TRUE Zero Waste, and IREE.
USGBC is seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Vice President, Product Management to lead our product management team. This role will focus on developing and implementing comprehensive product management infrastructure, accelerating team effectiveness, enhancing market analysis and product design capabilities, and ensuring effective organizational buy-in. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in product management, a passion for sustainability, and a proven track record of change management and building high performance teams.
This position reports directly to the Chief Product Officer and is supported by two Vice President positions.
This position is approved to work remotely, however, candidates based in Washington D.C. metro area are preferred. If candidate is a resident of Washington DC/Virginia/Maryland, they must be able to commute into the office few times a week.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Develop and execute the overall product management strategy aligned with the organization's vision and goals.
- Build and develop a strong product management team through effective hiring, training, and mentoring.
- Foster a collaborative, positive, and inclusive team environment that encourages professional growth and development.
Product Infrastructure:
- Enhance and maintain robust product management infrastructure, including tools, systems, and processes.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) across the broader organization to ensure consistency and efficiency in product management practices.
- Continuously assess and improve infrastructure and SOPs to meet evolving organizational needs.
- Enhance process to develop and maintain comprehensive product roadmaps that align with organizational objectives and market demands.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration tools are in place, understood, and utilized across the organization.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of product management initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze KPIs to drive continuous improvement and achieve organizational goals.
Product Management Training:
- Design and implement comprehensive training programs for product managers and other team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Curate training materials, workshops, and resources to support ongoing professional development of team.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments.
Market Analysis:
- Develop and implement market analysis frameworks and methodologies to identify trends, opportunities, market sizing, and competitive landscape.
- Create and reinforce pathways for product managers to ingest insights and recommendations to inform product strategy and decision-making.
- Ensure analysis is kept updated and is made accessible for the organization to leverage for marketing, sales, research, etc.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Lead change management initiatives to ensure smooth transitions and adoption of new processes and systems across the organization.
- Communicate changes effectively to all stakeholders and provide support during implementation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including technical development, marketing, sales, technology, and customer support, to ensure alignment and successful product launches.
- Communicate product vision, strategy, and progress to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in product management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Expertise in product road mapping, planning, and KPI development and management.
- Proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Proven experience in the green building and sustainability industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement training programs and SOPs.
- Solid analytical skills, creative problem-solving skills, and high attention to detail
- Experience in change management.
- Leadership skills to gain credibility, garner respect, and guide the creation of self-organizing teams.
- Passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.
