Position Overview
The Business Development Manager – NA is responsible for growing NovaSource’s Power Plants and BESS business in North America. They will manage client relationships up to operational onboarding. This includes sourcing new clients, developing and maintaining relationships, creating proposals, negotiating commercial terms, and overseeing cost estimating and contract negotiations.
The primary goal of the Business Development Manager is to create lasting, mutually beneficial partnerships with clients. They must be able to speak expertly to clients with a transparent, trustworthy approach. Since every client and project is different, they need to be able to develop creative, tailored solutions. The Business Development Manager will serve as the face of NovaSource during the sales process and must always represent their values to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Identification: Identify potential clients active in the North America and LATAM Power Plants and BESS markets and complete appropriate research on their business and needs.
- Outreach: Through personal and professional networks reach out to prospective clients to establish relationships with NovaSource.
- Sales Meetings: Run in-person and videoconference sales meetings to explain NovaSource’s service offerings and value proposition, find opportunities to collaborate on, and understand the procurement process.
- Proposal Management: Full management and execution responsibility for proposal development, working closely with NovaSource’s Cost Estimator, Contracts Manager, and Admin Team.
- Proposal Follow Up: Follow up with the client to ensure NovaSource remains in the RFP process and amend the proposal to address client feedback.
- Commercial Terms Alignment: Negotiate key commercial terms with the client to get a deal award.
- Contract Negotiation: Collaborate with Contracts Manager to execute contracts.
- Performance Tracking: Log and track all opportunities and account outreach in NovaSource’s CRM.
- Relationship Management: Develop relationships with prospective clients, understanding their needs and offering tailored solutions to solve their unique problems. Maintain existing client relationships specific to renewals and onboarding of additional sites.
- Market Research: Keep up to date on all news related to clients and industry trends.
- Achieve Results: Meet or exceed quarterly and annual sales targets.
Ideal Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of business development experience in the solar industry with a large network of industry relationships.
- A deep understanding of the renewables industry, with the ability to become a subject matter expert in Solar O&M. Knowledge and experience in BESS is preferred.
- Demonstrated, measurable experience in B2B sales, acting as a trusted advisor to clients.
- Savvy negotiator experienced in complex proposal development.
- Independent, self-starter, with a competitive attitude and hunger to win.
- Excellent oral and written communication, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Thrives in an entrepreneurial environment with the ability to successfully manage multiple, completing priorities, tasks, and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Full professional proficiency in English; Spanish a plus but not required.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including international travel.
Location
Ideally, the Business Development Manager—NA will ideally be based in Chandler, AZ or Houston, TX. This person can be remotely based.
Reporting
The Business Development Manager—NA will report to the Vice President of Business Development.
Compensation
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience, and will include an attractive base salary, quarterly commissions, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in business, construction, engineering or a related field is required, and Master’s Degree is preferred.
